For most new buyers on a supported current platform, buy the current The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered listing. It includes the original Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. If you already own the base game, update it and check your platform library before paying again: CD PROJEKT RED says existing owners receive those expansions at no extra cost, with the exact claim or download route varying by platform.
Which version should you buy?
The old choice between the Base Game and Complete Edition is no longer the best starting point for a digital purchase. CD PROJEKT RED announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered as available on September 29, 2026. On supported platforms, it replaces Complete Edition and includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Check the listing for your exact platform because storefront labels and availability can differ. Update first, then verify the entitlement
CD PROJEKT RED’s support instruction is: “Simply update the game to the latest version to install Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.” On supported current platforms, check the game’s library or store page after updating rather than purchasing the expansions separately. The support FAQ says existing owners retain their library entitlements, saves, cross-progression, achievements, and trophies. It also says the expansions can still be started separately from the main menu. CD PROJEKT RED Support: expansion inclusion FAQ

For PS4 and Xbox One, CDPR says the existing versions otherwise remain unchanged, with the two expansions available to download for free. The Remastered announcement separately says original Nintendo Switch owners can claim the upgrade on Switch 2. What each edition includes
Remastered
The current Remastered release includes the base game plus Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. It replaces Complete Edition on the supported platforms named in CDPR’s announcement. For a new digital purchase on those platforms, use this current listing rather than relying on an older guide’s edition name.
Complete Edition on Nintendo Switch
CD PROJEKT RED’s Switch support FAQ says the physical and digital Complete Editions contain the base game, 16 free DLC items, and both major expansions. A boxed copy is therefore a reasonable choice if physical media matters to you; check the retailer’s listing for region and compatibility before buying. Older Complete Edition copies
Complete Edition was the familiar bundle name for the base game, Hearts of Stone, Blood and Wine, and 16 extra content items. CDPR confirmed those contents in its December 2022 release notice. That history may help identify an older physical copy or a library entry, but current digital storefront policy has changed: the support FAQ describes standalone expansion delisting and the Base Game being replaced by Complete Edition in affected stores, while the 2026 announcement says Remastered replaces Complete Edition on supported platforms. Rank #2
- If you buy this game, you will receive a free next-gen update on December 14th!
- Play as a highly trained monster slayer for hire.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth and complexity.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year edition brings together the base game and all the additional content released to date.
Are Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine still separate purchases?
For an owner of the base game, CDPR’s current policy is that both original expansions are available at no extra cost. The standalone expansion listings have been delisted in affected digital storefronts, and the base-game listing there has been replaced by Complete Edition; the later Remastered release replaces Complete Edition on supported platforms. If your library shows an existing entitlement, keep it and use the platform’s update or download route rather than trying to buy a delisted listing.
What about Songs of the Past?
Songs of the Past is announced as a third expansion planned for 2027. CD PROJEKT RED has not established its final price or whether it will be bundled with Remastered, Complete Edition, or the two original expansions. Treat it as a forthcoming separate content decision until the publisher confirms those details. CD PROJEKT RED Press Center announcement
Quick buying checklist
- Buying new digitally on a supported current platform: choose that platform’s Remastered listing and confirm the two original expansions are included.
- Already own the base game: update, check your account’s entitlement, and avoid paying for the original expansions separately unless your storefront explicitly shows you lack access.
- On PS4 or Xbox One: claim or download the expansions through the free route CDPR describes for those consoles.
- Want a boxed Switch copy: the Switch Complete Edition is the documented physical option with both expansions and 16 free DLC items; verify the exact region and compatibility.
- Interested in Songs of the Past: do not assume it comes with an existing edition until CDPR publishes bundle details.
Prices, regional listings, and retailer stock were not established by CDPR’s edition and entitlement information; check the live store page for your region before purchasing. CD PROJEKT RED reports more than 65 million copies sold worldwide and more than 250 Game of the Year awards, but those publisher-reported figures do not affect which edition includes the expansions.
