The End of the Sun is listed as requiring 9.2 GB of installed storage on Xbox Series X|S. The figure appears in the XboxAchievements.com game overview under “HDD Space Required.” The indexed Xbox listing also identifies the game as optimized for Xbox Series X|S and gives a November 4, 2026 release date. Because that date is after the current October 18, 2026 reference date, the requirement should be treated as listing metadata that could change before launch or after updates.
That 9.2 GB number describes the listed space needed for the installed Xbox title; it is not a guarantee that the downloadable package will be exactly 9.2 GB. Download compression, installation staging files, patches and platform-managed data can make the amount of free space needed at a particular moment different from the final installed footprint.

At a glance: Xbox and PC storage requirements
| Version | Listed storage requirement | What the figure represents | Other storage guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | 9.2 GB | XboxAchievements.com “HDD Space Required” field in its 2026 game overview | Microsoft’s indexed result labels the title “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S” |
| PC (Windows) | 10 GB available space | Steam’s minimum and recommended system-requirement listings, dated 2025 | Steam recommends an SSD |
The two figures are useful planning references, not the result of a controlled test between platforms. The Xbox number is a database field for listed installed space, while the PC number is a publisher or store system requirement. They may use different definitions and can change independently as builds are updated.

What the 9.2 GB Xbox figure means
For an Xbox Series X or Series S owner, the practical interpretation is simple: the current listing expects the game to occupy about 9.2 GB once installed. The title is identified as an Xbox Series X|S game rather than an Xbox One release, so this requirement applies to the Series-generation listing shown in the overview.

“HDD Space Required” is the database’s wording. It should be read as the listed installed-space requirement, not as a promise about the size of the download shown in the Xbox interface. A store download can be compressed, and the console may temporarily need additional working room while it decrypts, verifies or applies an update. If the console reports that more room is needed, follow the console’s live requirement rather than relying only on the published figure.
Does Series X need more space than Series S?
No separate Series X and Series S values are provided in the listing. Both consoles are grouped under Xbox Series X|S, so 9.2 GB is the clearest console-specific figure for either model. That does not mean every future patch will have identical effects on both machines; it means no model-specific difference has been established in the available listing.
Is the Xbox version available now?
The indexed Xbox overview gives November 4, 2026 as the release date. With the reference date of October 18, 2026, that launch date is still in the future. Availability, preload timing and the final install size can therefore change before release. Check the Xbox store page on or after launch if you need the exact package size shown for your account and region.

How to check space before installing
Use the console’s own storage screen immediately before starting the installation. Dashboard wording can vary by system update, but the relevant controls are normally found through these paths:
- Open My games & apps from the Xbox Home screen.
- Choose Manage or Manage games and add-ons, then open the storage or free-space view. You can also open Settings, choose System, and select Storage devices to see available capacity by drive.
- Confirm that the target internal drive or expansion device has enough free space for the installation prompt. If the console displays a larger figure than the published listing, use the console figure.
- Start the installation and watch the queue for the actual download size and any subsequent update. Do not power off the console while it is verifying or applying the installation.
The storage screen reports free capacity, not merely the total advertised capacity of the drive. System-reserved space, other games, captures and apps reduce what is available for a new installation.

How much extra room should you leave?
There is no published patch-size history or independent Xbox download measurement for this game, so no precise buffer can be promised. The safest approach is to have more free space than the listing’s minimum rather than trying to stop exactly at the threshold. Extra room helps when an update is staged alongside the existing installation, when the console retains temporary files, or when another queued download starts first.
For a single installation, check the console’s prompt and leave a comfortable margin that suits your library-management habits. Players who routinely keep their drive nearly full should clear space before launch instead of waiting for an installation error. A practical cleanup targets games you no longer play, duplicate captures and unused applications; Xbox’s storage-management screen can identify large items without deleting the save data associated with a properly synchronized game.

A larger download does not automatically contradict the 9.2 GB listing. The published value concerns listed installed space, whereas the network transfer can include compressed or replacement files. Let the console finish calculating the package before deciding whether the listing is inaccurate. If the final installed entry occupies materially different space, record the version and date when reporting the change, because patches can alter the footprint.
What kind of game is being installed?
Steam describes The End of the Sun as a mystery-filled first-person adventure and exploration game set in a Slavic fantasy world. The End of the Sun Forge is listed as both developer and publisher on Steam, which gives context for the PC listing but does not change the Xbox storage figure. The Steam page records a January 29, 2025 PC release, while the indexed Xbox overview lists the later November 4, 2026 console date.
Knowing the genre does not predict file size reliably. A first-person adventure can contain streamed environments, voice assets or high-resolution textures in ways that differ between platforms. Do not estimate Xbox storage by converting the PC number; use the Xbox listing and the console’s installation prompt.

Xbox versus PC: why the numbers are not a benchmark
Steam lists 10 GB of available space for both its minimum and recommended Windows requirements and recommends an SSD. Xbox lists 9.2 GB in a field labelled “HDD Space Required.” The one-decimal difference is small, but it should not be presented as proof that the Xbox build is smaller, more compressed or better optimized.

Different storefronts can round values, count optional files differently or update their records at different times. A future Xbox patch could also make the console figure diverge from the current PC requirement. Treat the table as a planning comparison, not a laboratory measurement of identical builds.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do you need an Xbox storage expansion card?
No—not for this game alone. A title with a listed footprint of this size should fit on a Series X or Series S drive that has ordinary free capacity. An expansion card becomes useful when the console is managing a large library, several sizeable current-generation games, or frequent installs and removals.
Seagate documents an Xbox Series X|S-compatible Game Drive storage product. Compatibility information is relevant when choosing additional capacity, but the exact model, capacity, price and availability depend on the market and purchase date. Verify those details on the current product documentation before buying. An expansion card increases available storage; it does not change the game’s listed requirement or guarantee faster downloads.
When an expansion card is worthwhile
- You regularly receive “installation stopped” or “not enough space” messages despite deleting only one small title.
- You want to keep a large rotation of Series X|S-optimized games installed at the same time.
- You prefer moving games between internal and expansion storage instead of downloading them again.
- You need predictable free capacity for large updates and do not want to manage storage after every release.
If none of those conditions applies, reclaiming space from unused games and captures is usually the simpler response to a 9.2 GB installation.

What can change the requirement after launch?
The current Xbox value is listing metadata, not a permanent technical guarantee. A launch build can differ from a pre-release database record, and later patches can add or replace files. Texture updates, localization packages, bug fixes and downloadable content may affect the installed footprint. No independent patch-size history or Xbox download-package byte count has been published for this title, so exact future growth cannot be calculated.
Check the store listing and the game’s Manage screen again after a major update. If you use an external or expansion drive, keep the game on a device recognized by the console before starting the update. Interruptions caused by insufficient space are easier to prevent than to repair because a partially staged update may require additional cleanup.
Troubleshooting an installation that will not start
“Not enough space” appears immediately
Open Settings > System > Storage devices and check the free capacity on the selected destination. Remove or move an unused game, large capture files or applications, then retry. If more space is requested than the published listing suggests, trust the live console prompt; it may be accounting for temporary installation data or an update.
The download stops partway through
Check the queue for another download competing for the same drive, confirm that the console remains connected to Xbox services, and resume the installation. Avoid repeatedly cancelling and restarting while the console is verifying files. If the problem persists, restart the console and inspect the storage screen again before retrying.

The installed size looks different from 9.2 GB
Record whether you are viewing the download size, the installed game entry or an update package. Those are different measurements. Compare the date and version shown on the console with the date of the published listing; a changed build or patch can explain the difference without indicating a fault.
Bottom line for Series X|S owners
Reserve at least the listed 9.2 GB for The End of the Sun, but let the Xbox installation prompt determine the real-time requirement. The figure applies to the Series X|S listing, the console release is currently dated November 4, 2026, and a storage expansion card is optional for this game by itself. Keep additional headroom if your drive is nearly full, because downloads and updates can require temporary working space beyond the final installed footprint.
