Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteStorage for 4K high-frame-rate video depends on the camera’s bitrate and recording settings, not just its resolution and frame rate. As a quick estimate, divide the bitrate in megabits per second (Mbps) by eight and multiply by recording seconds: at 360 Mbps, one minute is about 2.7 GB; at 720 Mbps, it is about 5.4 GB. Those are calculated estimates, not universal file sizes. Also check that your camera actually records 4K at 240fps: some models offer 240fps only at 1080p.
How much space does one minute of 4K 120fps video use?
There is no single file size for 4K 120fps. The camera’s bitrate—the amount of video data recorded each second—is the most useful figure for estimating storage. Codec, quality setting, image detail and camera implementation can all affect that bitrate.

For one minute, multiply the bitrate by 60 and divide by 8. For example, 360 Mbps works out to 2,700 MB, or about 2.7 GB; 720 Mbps works out to 5,400 MB, or about 5.4 GB. These figures are calculations from the stated bitrates, not guaranteed sizes for every camera or clip.
How much storage does 4K 240fps use?
First confirm that your camera records 4K at 240fps. A frame-rate specification may refer to a lower resolution: DJI lists 4K recording up to 100/120fps and 1080p up to 240fps for the Osmo Action 6. FUJIFILM lists high-speed 4K at 120p for the X-H2S, while its 240fps high-speed mode is FHD.

If a camera does support 4K 240fps, use the manufacturer’s bitrate for that exact mode and apply the same formula. Don’t assume it will use twice as much storage as 4K 120fps. The bitrate depends on compression, codec, bit depth, image detail and how the camera implements the mode.

Manufacturer examples show why settings matter
| Camera or example | Published mode or bitrate | Approximate storage per minute |
|---|---|---|
| FUJIFILM X-H2S | 4K/DCI4K high-speed at 120p; listed H.265 modes include 720 Mbps and 360 Mbps | About 5.4 GB at 720 Mbps; about 2.7 GB at 360 Mbps. Calculated from the listed bitrates. |
| DJI Osmo Action 6 | Maximum video bitrate 120 Mbps; listed modes include 4K at 100/120fps and 1080p at 240fps | About 0.9 GB at 120 Mbps if sustained. This is a bitrate-based estimate, not a claim that every clip records continuously at the maximum. |
| Insta360 GO Series examples | 4K/30fps at 90 Mbps; 4K/60fps at standard bitrate | About 675 MB/minute at 90 Mbps; about 450 MB/minute for the 4K/60fps standard-bitrate example. |
These examples are not directly interchangeable: they cover different cameras, modes and settings. FUJIFILM cautions that its bitrate varies with the subject, and Insta360 says storage per minute varies by model, settings and subject. A camera’s stated maximum bitrate is useful for planning but does not guarantee that every clip will be recorded at that rate.

Estimate recording time for your memory card
- Find the exact recording mode. Check the camera’s specifications or recording menu for resolution, frame rate, codec and quality or bitrate setting.
- Get the mode’s bitrate. Use a manufacturer-published bitrate for that specific setting if available.
- Calculate storage per minute. Multiply Mbps by 60 and divide by 8 to get decimal MB per minute; divide by 1,000 to convert to decimal GB.
- Multiply by your planned recording time. For example, use the per-minute estimate for your mode and multiply it by the number of minutes you expect to record.
- Leave headroom and check card support. Bitrate can vary, and some storage may be unavailable or reserved by the camera. Confirm the supported card type, capacity and speed class for your model rather than filling a card to its stated capacity in your plan.
Storage options differ even within one product range. DJI lists microSD expansion for the Osmo Action 6. Insta360 says the GO Ultra accepts microSD/TF cards up to 2TB with UHS-I V30 or higher, while the GO 3 and GO 3S use built-in storage only. Check the specifications for your exact camera before choosing a card.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why resolution and frame rate don’t determine file size
Resolution tells you how many pixels are recorded, and frame rate tells you how many frames are captured each second. Neither alone specifies how much data the camera stores. The bitrate reflects the data rate for the selected recording mode, so it is the practical input for estimating file size. Manufacturer examples vary considerably: Insta360’s GO Series FAQ gives about 450 MB per minute for one 4K/60fps standard-bitrate setting and about 675 MB per minute for 4K/30fps at 90 Mbps.

When comparing modes, check the actual resolution and frame rate together with bitrate, codec, bit depth, and whether high-frame-rate footage is recorded natively or assigned slow-motion playback. For storage planning, calculate from the bitrate for the mode you will use.
