Players use the Enchantsmith to apply an effect to a gear slot, then can improve enchantments over time. The article’s claims are about enchantments, not upgrading an item’s level, rarity, identity, or base statistics.

The distinction matters for Unique gear: upgrading an enchantment on a piece of equipment is not the same as upgrading the Unique item itself. Mojang’s guide does not specify costs, prerequisites, rarity restrictions, or whether every slot or enchantment can be upgraded, so those details should not be assumed.
Can you upgrade Unique gear itself?
That is not confirmed in the official material cited here. What is confirmed is the ability to upgrade and level up enchantments through the Enchantsmith. Until Mojang describes item-level upgrading specifically, an enchantment improvement should not be taken as evidence that a Unique item’s own level or properties can be upgraded.

Can you reroll a Unique item’s effects?
Mojang says items may feature random effects, indicating that item properties can vary. The guide does not describe a reroll button, service, or other way to replace those effects. Randomness alone does not establish that players can reroll an item, and the source does not say whether Unique items have fixed or variable effects.
Can you trade Unique gear with another player?
The official systems guide does not confirm player-to-player gear trading. Co-op play and trading are separate features: being able to play together does not prove that equipment can be transferred between players. Do not count on trading as a way to obtain or pass along a Unique item based on the cited material.

How gear slots fit into the answer
Mojang says combat slots expand from six in the original game to twelve in Minecraft Dungeons II. Its listed equipment includes four armor pieces—helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots—as well as talismans, which provide passive bonuses. More slots and build options expand what players can equip; they do not establish item upgrades, rerolls, or trading.
