For ordinary streaming, there is no established universal minimum for storage, RAM or processor speed. Choose storage according to the apps and files you plan to keep, and treat processor and RAM specifications as clues—not as a reliable cross-brand speed ranking. If you mainly stream from a few apps, extra capacity may not matter much once those apps fit; games and locally stored media make headroom more useful.

A streaming device uses storage for installed apps and other device data. More capacity can be useful if you install many apps or games, or keep media on the device. RAM and the processor are different from storage
RAM and processor specifications describe parts of the device hardware, not how much room it has for apps and files. They can affect interface responsiveness and heavier tasks, but a larger RAM figure or a processor label alone does not prove that a device will feel faster in every app or situation.

The Roku entries illustrate a model-specific difference in RAM, not a direct speed result: both listed models use an ARM Cortex A55, and the specifications do not establish how they compare in real-world performance. Apple’s technical page specifies the A15 Bionic chip but does not provide RAM or storage figures in the reviewed specifications. Apple says 4K/HDR streaming requires a compatible 4K/HDR television.
A 2023 U.S. House Committee hearing document compared five devices in its own test set, describing Apple TV as having the most storage and the tested Roku Streaming Stick+ as having the least RAM and storage. That is historical context about those tested devices, not a conclusion about current product lines or a universal ranking.

How to choose capacity and performance for your setup
- List what you will install. Count the streaming apps you actually use, then account for games or other apps. There is no manufacturer-published app count that guarantees a particular storage amount will be enough.
- Decide whether you need local media. If you intend to keep video or other files on the device, give storage more weight than you would for app-based streaming alone.
- Compare exact model and generation. Do not assume that two devices in the same brand family share hardware. Match the published RAM, storage and processor information to the specific model and year.
- Check the workload and app ecosystem. Confirm that the apps you rely on are available, and consider whether you will use games or other heavier tasks. Raw specifications do not substitute for a relevant, comparable benchmark.
- Check the features that affect your viewing setup. Match resolution and HDR support to your television, and consider networking features against your home network. A stick and a higher-end box may serve different needs, so compare the capabilities that matter to you rather than assuming one form factor is automatically faster.
When more hardware headroom is worth it
More storage is most relevant when you have a larger app library, install games or keep local media. RAM and processor details may be worth considering when interface responsiveness or heavier tasks matter, but the published figures available here do not support a universal minimum or a reliable speed order across Google, Roku and Apple devices. Use exact-model specifications to narrow your options, then prioritize app availability, display compatibility and network needs for your particular setup.
