PlayStation VR2
Sony’s 2025 price announcement says the package includes the headset, Sense controllers and stereo headphones. The required PS5 is sold separately, so the headset’s $399.99 recommended retail price is not the cost of a complete setup for someone who does not already own that console. What does it cost to get started with VR?
Start with the hardware you need, not just the headset’s sticker price. A Quest 3S is a standalone system; PS VR2 requires a separately purchased PS5 for PS5 use and is not compatible with PS4. How to compare VR costs fairly
- Compare the same cost scope: headset-only against headset-only, or complete setup against complete setup.
- Include required hardware. This makes a standalone Quest 3S price fundamentally different from a PS VR2 price for a buyer without a PS5.
- Choose the storage tier based on your needs and compare its actual listing price.
- Check what is in the box so you do not count included controllers or accessories as separate purchases.
- Budget separately for games, subscriptions and optional accessories rather than assuming they are included or mandatory.
- Verify the local price and bundle: Meta’s cited prices are U.S. listings checked October 5, 2026, while Sony’s figure is a U.S. RRP announced in February 2025.
