A PC drawing an average 100 W at the wall uses 72 kWh in a 30-day month. Using Tata Power Distribution Mumbai’s FY 2026–27 residential energy and wheeling charges, that consumption adds roughly ₹310–₹910 in base variable charges, depending on the tariff slab it falls into. Your actual cost depends on your electricity distributor, household usage, and bill adjustments.
Estimate the PC’s monthly electricity use
Use the computer’s average power draw at the wall, not the maximum wattage printed on its power supply. Convert power to energy with this formula:

Watts × hours ÷ 1,000 = kilowatt-hours (kWh)
For a steady draw over a 30-day month, the computer runs for 720 hours. At an assumed average of 100 W: 100 × 720 ÷ 1,000 = 72 kWh. This is a worked scenario, not a claim that every streaming PC draws 100 W.

These are calculation examples only. Actual draw varies with hardware and workload, including whether the PC is idle, streaming, encoding, or gaming, and whether a monitor is included.

What 72 kWh costs under Tata Power Mumbai’s FY 2026–27 rates
Tata Power Company Limited Distribution Business’s residential LT I (B) schedule applies from 1 April 2026 through 31 March 2027. The table combines its energy and wheeling components to show an illustrative base variable-charge calculation for 72 kWh. It assumes all 72 kWh are charged at the indicated slab rate; it is not a complete bill estimate.

Those figures are the calculated energy-plus-wheeling charges only. Tata Power’s tariff order says fuel adjustment charges (FAC) are charged over and above the base tariff. Fixed charges and other applicable bill components also affect the amount payable. The order lists a ₹90 monthly fixed charge for single-phase residential connections and ₹160 for three-phase connections; these connection-level charges generally should not be attributed wholly to the PC as though it caused them. Price the PC at your household’s marginal slab
The applicable cost of the PC depends on total household consumption, not just the PC’s own kWh. If your home already uses more than 100 units in a month, some or all of the PC’s extra 72 kWh may fall into a higher slab. If the added consumption crosses a threshold, divide it among the relevant slabs and apply each rate to the portion in that slab; do not multiply all 72 kWh by the lowest rate.
For a more realistic estimate, add the PC’s expected consumption to the home’s other monthly use, then apply your tariff’s slab rules to the resulting total. To isolate the PC’s incremental cost, compare the resulting variable charges with and without its consumption.

Confirm which Mumbai tariff applies to you
“Mumbai residential rate” is not a single tariff. The worked rates above are for Tata Power Distribution Mumbai’s FY 2026–27 residential schedule. Check your electricity bill for your distribution utility and tariff category before using them. MSEDCL lists its “MYT Tariff Order in Case No. 75 of 2025,” dated 25 March 2026, but its tariff index alone does not provide the exact residential calculation used in the Tata Power example. Do not apply Tata Power’s rates to an MSEDCL account. Check MSEDCL’s tariff document index.
Tata Power’s FY 2026–27 order also lists a residential time-of-day rebate of ₹0.55/kWh for electricity used from 09:00 to 17:00, subject to installation of a smart meter. An always-on PC runs during those hours as well as outside them, but do not include the rebate unless your meter and account meet the stated conditions.

Measure your own PC’s wall consumption
- Check your bill. Note the distribution utility, residential tariff category, meter phase, and billing period.
- Measure at the wall. Measure the PC, and the monitor if you want to include it, during representative operation. Include idle, streaming, encoding, and reboot periods rather than relying on a brief peak.
- Use recorded energy where possible. If a meter reports kWh, use the energy recorded for the measurement interval. For a shorter interval that you want to project to a month, scale it to the number of days in your billing period.
- Apply the household tariff. Add the PC’s estimated kWh to household use and calculate the applicable slab portions. Include adjustments when comparing the estimate with the bill.
- Use utility estimates as estimates. MSEDCL describes online tools for estimating consumption and calculating an approximate bill; the actual bill and current tariff schedule determine your account’s charges. Read the MSEDCL Web Self Service help page.
A plug-in electricity usage monitor or watt meter is one optional way to record wall consumption. Choose one suitable for your local outlet and the PC’s load. Its reading can tell you how much energy the setup uses, but it does not determine your utility’s price per kWh.

If the goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running around the clock, the electricity estimate is one part of the decision: you can run the setup yourself, or let a cloud service handle playback. For a do-it-yourself approach, measure the PC’s actual wall draw as described above and apply your own account’s tariff. That gives you a useful electricity-cost input without assuming a universal PC wattage or Mumbai rate.
