Schedule the event in YouTube Studio, then send the prerecorded video to it at broadcast time using an encoder or playout service. Scheduling creates the event and its watch page; it does not play a video file by itself. You’ll need the event’s stream URL and key, and you should check the incoming preview in Live Control Room before clicking Go live.
Before scheduling: check that your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder guide and its live-streaming tips.

How to schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live.
- Open Manage, then select Schedule stream.
- Choose to reuse settings from an earlier stream or create a new event.
- Enter the event details, set visibility, and choose the planned date and time.
- Save the event. You can share its watch page so viewers can find it and opt for a reminder.
For YouTube’s current encoder workflow and event setup, see the official guide. The Studio schedule sets up the event; a separate source still has to supply the video feed.
Send the prerecorded video as a live feed
Use an encoder or playout source that can transmit the finished video as a live feed. In that software or service, enter the stream URL and stream key associated with the scheduled event. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders and lists cloud playout options; the specific controls for loading and automating a file depend on the tool and its version.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
- Open the scheduled event’s stream settings in YouTube Studio and retrieve its stream URL and key.
- Configure your chosen encoder or playout source with those credentials and the prerecorded video.
- Start the feed at the scheduled time, then wait for its preview to appear in Live Control Room.
- Check the picture and audio. When ready, click Go live.
- When the broadcast is over, end the stream in YouTube and stop the encoder or playout source.
YouTube states that streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a scheduled event will start playback automatically: the source must send the feed, and you must confirm the preview and start the event.
Prepare and test before the event
- YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the broadcast and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and monitor audio and video quality before going live.
- Plan upload capacity with 20% headroom above the stream bitrate, as recommended in YouTube’s network guidance.
These are YouTube’s general recommendations; the exact encoder setup varies by product and configuration.

Choose where the video will play
A local computer or hardware encoder gives you direct control over the feed, but it must be running and connected while it sends the stream. A cloud playout service can run the feed without relying on a computer at home and may suit unattended or continuous broadcasts. YouTube’s encoder directory names Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded streams and the AJA HELO Plus hardware encoder with optional PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media. Neither is required simply to schedule an event in Studio.

Copyright and monetization considerations
Scheduling a stream does not grant rights to the music, video, or other material in it. Make sure you have the necessary rights before broadcasting. Monetization depends on YouTube Partner Program acceptance and eligibility for the relevant feature; scheduling alone does not enable ads, Super Chat, memberships, or revenue. YouTube also says live ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. See its monetization guidance for India.
Troubleshooting common problems
- You can’t enable live streaming: verify the channel and check for a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is your first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- No preview appears: confirm the encoder is running and is configured with the scheduled event’s stream URL and key. Check the encoder’s connection and wait for the incoming feed in Live Control Room before starting the event.
- The scheduled event exists, but the video does not play: Studio scheduling creates the event, not local-file playback. Start a compatible encoder or playout source that can send the recording as a live feed.
- Picture or audio quality is poor: inspect the source and encoder output, monitor the preview, and ensure your upload connection has YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth headroom over the stream bitrate.
- The broadcast is not monetizing as expected: confirm that the channel and feature meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements; ad delivery is not guaranteed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can YouTube Studio play my prerecorded video automatically?
No. Studio schedules the event, but a compatible encoder or playout source must send the prerecorded video as the live feed.
