Watching a YouTube lofi livestream continuously for a 31-day month means 744 hours of playback. At 1080p, published estimates suggest roughly 1.5–2.2 TB of data for that month; at 720p, plan for about 744 GB. These are viewer-side download estimates, not a measured total for a particular lofi stream, and actual use varies with video quality and playback conditions.
Estimated data use for continuous viewing
The table applies NTT East’s approximate hourly estimates to 744 hours, the length of a 31-day month. Its figures are planning estimates, not a guarantee for every device or stream.

| Playback quality | Approximate data per hour | 31-day month (744 hours) |
|---|---|---|
| 360p | 0.3 GB | 223 GB |
| 480p | 0.6 GB | 446 GB |
| 720p | 1 GB | 744 GB |
| 1080p | 2 GB | 1,488 GB (about 1.5 TB) |
| 4K | 8.8 GB | 6,547 GB (about 6.5 TB) |
Estimates differ across sources. Nigeria’s Communications Commission lists 315 MB/hour at 360p, 700 MB/hour at 480p, 1 GB/hour at 720p, 3 GB/hour at 1080p, and 7 GB/hour at 2160p. Across the NTT East and Commission figures, 1080p works out to roughly 1.5–2.2 TB over 744 hours. NTT East says actual usage varies by environment; the Commission also notes that device and activity affect its estimates. Data use is not the same as bandwidth
In everyday questions, “bandwidth” often means the amount of internet data consumed. Technically, bandwidth or connection speed is a rate, commonly expressed in Mbps; monthly data use is a volume, expressed in GB or TB. For this estimate, multiply hourly data use by playback hours. A 31-day month has 744 hours; a 30-day month has 720.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
The calculation is: approximate data per hour × 24 × days watched. For example, at the NTT East estimate of 2 GB per hour for 1080p, 2 × 744 gives 1,488 GB for 31 days. Because the hourly figure is approximate, the result should be treated as a planning number, not an exact bill prediction.
Why estimates vary
Resolution is a major factor in the published estimates: NTT East’s approximate rate rises from 0.3 GB/hour at 360p to 8.8 GB/hour at 4K. But published rates are not uniform. The German Federal Environment Agency’s 2021 background paper reproduces a YouTube table attributed to tarife.at (2020): 300 MB/hour at 360p, 450 MB/hour at 480p, 1.2 GB/hour at 720p, and 1.7 GB/hour at 1080p. Nigeria’s Communications Commission lists 3 GB/hour at 1080p. These differences are why a range is more useful than a supposedly exact monthly figure.

Other variables include encoding, frame rate, device, app, and network behavior. Android Authority reports that YouTube uses variable bitrate and prebuffers video in chunks; its testing found livestream data use about the same as a comparably long YouTube video at the same resolution and frame rate. That is the outlet’s reported measurement, not a YouTube guarantee. The World Bank gives broad context ranges of 560–800 MB/hour for SD webinar, video, or YouTube streaming and 2–3 GB/hour for HD video; those are not lofi-specific measurements. The estimates above describe one viewer downloading a continuous stream. They do not tell a channel operator how much outbound data their livestream uses. Broadcaster traffic depends on the stream’s bitrate and the number of concurrent viewers; without those figures, there is no defensible single monthly total for a particular lofi channel. Viewer-side downloads and broadcaster-side uploads are different calculations.

Reduce or measure your own viewing use
Choose a lower playback quality
YouTube Help documents automatic and manual playback-quality controls. The exact options and labels can vary by device and connection. Choosing a lower available resolution generally reduces data consumption, with a corresponding reduction in picture clarity. YouTube Help: Change the quality of your video
Check your actual rate
- Choose the device and playback quality you expect to use for the lofi stream.
- Record the relevant router, device, or ISP data counter.
- Play the stream for a known period, then record the counter again.
- Divide the data difference by the playback hours to estimate your hourly use.
- Multiply that average by your expected monthly hours. Use 720 hours for 30 days or 744 for 31 days of continuous viewing.
This household measurement can account for your own setup better than a generic estimate. Make sure the counter covers the device or connection you intend to measure, since other household traffic can otherwise be included.
