Short answer: Sending a constant 35 Mbps 4K/60fps H.264 live feed for 24 hours uses about 378 decimal GB of video data, before protocol overhead. That is a broadcaster-side estimate based on YouTube’s recommended live-ingestion bitrate—not a measured figure for watching a stream. YouTube transcodes live feeds into different formats for viewers, so their data use depends on the version delivered and playback conditions.
Broadcaster or viewer: which data use do you mean?
A livestream uses data in two different directions:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Broadcasting: Your encoder uploads the live feed to YouTube. The 35 Mbps recommendation for 4K/2160p at 60fps applies to this incoming feed.
- Watching: YouTube sends a playback stream to each viewer. It automatically transcodes the incoming live signal into multiple output formats for different devices and networks, so the broadcaster’s bitrate does not tell you how much a viewer receives. YouTube’s live encoder settings explain this distinction.
If you are estimating the data used by a 24/7 channel’s internet connection, use the broadcaster calculation below. If you want to know what your phone or broadband connection will consume while watching, there is no exact daily India-specific figure established by these sources.

35 megabits/second × 86,400 seconds ÷ 8 = 378,000 megabytes = 378 decimal GB
This counts video payload only. It assumes the bitrate remains at 35 Mbps for all 24 hours and does not include protocol overhead. Interruptions, bitrate variation and the way a carrier or device meter records data can change the real plan-meter reading.

How codec and bitrate change the estimate
The same calculation gives different totals at different configured bitrates. YouTube lists a 10–40 Mbps minimum-to-maximum range for AV1 and H.265 live ingestion at 4K/60fps. If either codec is held continuously at those endpoints for 24 hours, the bitrate-based estimate is about 108–432 decimal GB.

| Live-ingestion scenario | Bitrate | Estimated payload for 24 hours |
|---|---|---|
| H.264, YouTube-recommended for 4K/60fps | 35 Mbps | 378 decimal GB |
| AV1 or H.265, lower end of YouTube’s listed range | 10 Mbps | 108 decimal GB |
| AV1 or H.265, upper end of YouTube’s listed range | 40 Mbps | 432 decimal GB |
These are continuous-bitrate calculations, not forecasts for every encoder or stream. YouTube’s HLS ingestion documentation says HEVC (H.265) generally provides 25% to 50% more compression than H.264 at the same video quality. That is a general codec comparison; it does not set the bitrate or data use of a particular broadcast. See Google’s HLS ingestion guidance.

What viewers in India can—and cannot—estimate
A viewer’s daily use depends on the playback bitrate YouTube delivers, resolution and playback conditions, and how long the stream is watched. The 35 Mbps broadcaster recommendation cannot be applied as a viewer’s daily amount because YouTube transcodes the incoming feed into different output formats.
Jio’s India-focused guidance notes that higher-resolution video uses more data and that consumption varies by application or website, including YouTube. It does not publish an exact daily amount for watching a 4K/60 YouTube Live stream. See Jio’s video-resolution and data-usage guidance. Your mobile or broadband allowance determines what that usage means for your plan; no current plan allowances or prices are established here.

Do not use YouTube’s upload figure for a livestream
YouTube separately recommends 53–68 Mbps for 2160p high-frame-rate SDR video uploads. That guidance is for uploading a prerecorded file, not for live ingestion or viewer playback. The figures are not interchangeable. See YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.

Keeping a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream online
If you are planning a continuous prerecorded-video channel, the broadcaster-side estimate matters: at the cited H.264 recommendation, a connection carrying the encoder feed continuously would upload about 378 decimal GB of video payload each day, before overhead. A computer-based setup also needs the computer and internet connection to remain available.
