Manufacturer specifications for Logitech models range from days for an illuminated rechargeable keyboard to months or years for models with replaceable batteries. Treat those figures as model-specific “up to” claims, not guarantees or results from a standardized comparison.
What battery life can you expect?
The manufacturer examples below show why the keyboard’s exact model and settings matter. Logitech’s pages describe different products and conditions; they do not establish a typical life for all wireless keyboards.

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results. The pages do not provide a common test method, so the figures should not be read as a direct ranking between models.
Why does a wireless keyboard battery die faster than expected?
Backlighting uses more power
On illuminated models, lighting can make a substantial difference to the stated runtime. Logitech’s MX Keys support page lists 146 hours at backlight level 10 in a bright room and 242 hours at level 8 in a darker room, compared with five months with the backlight off. These are figures for that specific model and its stated scenarios, not a general runtime rule. The page also says the remaining 10% battery can add 364 hours without backlighting. Logitech MX Keys backlight guidance; publication date not stated.

Usage and computing conditions differ
Typing patterns, lighting settings, and computing conditions affect battery consumption. Logitech explicitly notes that life can vary by user and computing conditions for the K480 and MX Keys. An “up to” figure is therefore not a promise that every setup will reach that runtime.
Battery design and specifications differ
A rechargeable keyboard and a keyboard powered by replaceable cells do not share a common battery-life test. Even replaceable-cell models may use different sizes: the cited K350 and MK365 specify two AA alkaline batteries, while the K480 specifies two AAA batteries. Check the exact model rather than assuming a battery size or chemistry.

Should you turn off the keyboard backlight to save battery?
If your keyboard has a backlight, lowering its brightness or switching it off is a model-supported way to extend runtime. Logitech’s MX Keys Business specification lists up to 10 days with predefined settings and up to five months with backlighting off. The K830 guidance likewise gives different figures for backlight-on and backlight-off use. The amount of extra life depends on the keyboard and conditions; those examples should not be applied to other models as guaranteed results.
How to check your keyboard’s battery needs
- Find the exact model name. Check the label on the keyboard, its original packaging, or the device information in the manufacturer’s support materials.
- Open the model’s official specification or support page. Look for the stated battery type, cell count, and any conditions attached to the runtime claim.
- Match the specified power source. For replaceable-cell keyboards, verify size and chemistry. Logitech specifies alkaline AA cells for the K350 and MK365; its K350 guidance says non-alkaline batteries may negatively affect battery life. K350 technical specifications.
- For rechargeable models, check the charging guidance and lighting settings. Compare the manufacturer’s stated runtimes with the backlight on and off, where available, and follow its charging instructions.
How to make a wireless keyboard battery last longer
- Reduce or disable the backlight if longer runtime matters more than illumination, where your model offers that setting.
- Use the battery size and chemistry specified for your exact keyboard; do not assume AA or AAA cells will fit every model.
- For the K350, Logitech recommends alkaline cells and describes the keyboard as using standby mode. K350 technical specifications.
- For the MK365, Logitech advises against mixing old and new batteries or batteries from different brands. MK365 technical specifications.
When should you suspect a battery problem?
A short runtime by itself does not establish that a keyboard is defective. First check whether the backlight is enabled, whether a rechargeable keyboard is being charged as directed, and whether replaceable batteries match the model’s specified size and chemistry. The manufacturer materials cited here do not define a universal runtime cutoff for diagnosing a failing battery; use the support guidance for your exact keyboard if the problem continues.
