For many recent Samsung Galaxy Watches, Samsung lists a maximum of up to 40 hours with Always On Display (AOD) off or up to 30 hours with AOD on. Galaxy Watch Ultra models have higher listed maximums: up to 80 hours with AOD off or up to 60 hours with it on. These are Samsung internal-test figures, not a promise of typical runtime. Your model, settings, activity and connection conditions all matter.
Samsung Galaxy Watch battery life by model
Samsung Germany’s support table, marked as of August 2026, lists the following maximum runtimes for Galaxy Watch5 and later. “Up to” is important: Samsung says the figures come from internal tests, and actual runtime varies with use and conditions.

Is 30 hours normal for a Galaxy Watch?
It can be consistent with Samsung’s listed maximum for models with AOD enabled, including the Watch6, Watch6 Classic, Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch9. A 30-hour result is not a universal benchmark, however: the cited figures are maxima, and your experience depends on your settings and usage. Check your exact model and whether AOD is enabled before judging the result against Samsung’s table.

Why is my Galaxy Watch battery draining so fast?
Samsung identifies screen brightness, what is displayed, how frequently the watch is used, and the quality of mobile, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS reception as factors that can change battery life. In practice, investigate features that increase screen activity or keep the watch working and connected—such as frequent GPS workouts, mobile connectivity, intensive health tracking and AOD—rather than assuming a short runtime proves the battery is defective. Samsung does not provide a universal “normal” runtime for every user or a percentage impact for each feature.
How to make a Samsung watch battery last longer
Try the adjustments that match your habits; some reduce convenience or tracking detail.
Reduce screen and notification activity
- Turn off Always On Display if you do not need the screen continuously visible.
- Lower screen brightness and reduce the time the screen stays on, where those controls are available for your model.
- Review notifications that wake or illuminate the display and disable alerts you do not need.
Limit background activity and connections
- Update watch software and apps. Samsung UK notes that an app bug can cause excessive battery use and recommends keeping apps up to date.
- Turn off health-tracking features you do not use.
- Close or remove unnecessary stored media and background apps.
- Disable network connections when you do not need the features that rely on them.
These steps follow Samsung UK’s general battery-life troubleshooting guidance. The available options and menu labels can differ by watch model and software version.

What Galaxy Watch power-saving modes change
Power Saving mode
Samsung’s Watch7 and Ultra guide says Power Saving mode turns off Wi-Fi, AOD and wake-up gesture. It also limits CPU performance, background network activity, location services, syncing frequency, screen brightness and screen timeout. Expect reduced functionality as well as longer runtime.
The guide also describes a “Limit health features” option. It disables workout auto-detection, high- and low-heart-rate alerts, background heart-rate monitoring, and movement and respiration tracking during sleep. Samsung says sleep score will not be calculated while this option is active. Galaxy Watch Ultra Exercise Power Saving
Samsung lists continuous GPS tracking of up to 48 hours in Exercise Power Saving mode for the Ultra family. This is a separate workout-mode figure, not the normal-use maximum. Samsung says the mode reduces GPS and heart-rate recording accuracy, turns off Bluetooth and network connections, and removes the audio guide. It may suit a long workout where endurance matters more than the usual tracking accuracy and connected features.

Ultra Power Saving maximum
Samsung’s US Ultra page advertises up to 100 hours in Power Saving mode and up to 48 hours in Exercise Power Saving mode. These are distinct mode-specific maximums; do not compare them directly with the normal-use AOD figures as though they describe the same conditions. When to check the watch or charger
If battery life remains unexpectedly short after reviewing settings and recent usage, check the watch for physical or liquid damage. Samsung UK advises using Samsung-approved chargers and accessories made for the specific device. That guidance concerns proper, compatible charging; it does not promise that a different charger will extend time between charges. For model-specific diagnosis, use Samsung support for your watch and software version.
