To choose or troubleshoot a VIZIO TV remote, start with the TV’s complete model number. Basic button control and voice control are not the same: an infrared (IR) remote may handle everyday commands, while voice features require a compatible Bluetooth remote and TV. Check your model’s manual and the remote’s current compatibility listing before buying or pairing.
Find your TV model before choosing a remote
Use the complete model number from the TV’s label or its model-specific manual. Match that number against the replacement remote’s compatibility information. A VIZIO-branded remote is not automatically compatible with every VIZIO TV, and compatibility for ordinary buttons does not establish that voice control will work.

Pair a VIZIO voice remote when the manual supports it
Pairing steps vary by remote and TV generation. For the 2023 Quantum Pro, VIZIO’s manual says the included remote should pair automatically over Bluetooth during first-time setup. If it does not, the manual gives this model-specific procedure:
- Hold the remote’s MIC and MUTE buttons until pairing mode starts.
- Keep the remote close enough to the TV while pairing completes.

Use voice after pairing
On the documented Quantum Pro remote, hold MIC while speaking. The manual’s examples include searching for free comedy movies, launching WatchFree+, changing volume and enabling captions. Available commands depend on the TV model and software. Some VIZIO TVs can use the VIZIO Mobile app for voice control. App name and supported functions vary by generation: older SmartCast manuals refer to SmartCast Mobile, while VIZIO’s 2024 HD/FHD manual uses VIZIO Mobile. What the manual says about voice privacy
VIZIO’s 2024 HD/FHD manual says voice commands may be sent to a third-party provider for transcription. It also says command audio and associated text may be collected to provide, evaluate and improve voice features. The manual describes capture when a user presses the microphone button and speaks into the remote or phone; it does not describe this as always-on listening. Read the manual’s privacy information for the TV and feature you use.

- Turn on the TV manually.
- Hold the universal remote’s TV or device button until its LED flashes twice.
- Enter a VIZIO code from the code list for that remote.
- Point the remote at the TV and press POWER.
- If the TV does not turn off, repeat with another listed code.

- Buttons work, but voice does not: Check that the remote is a voice model and that the TV’s full model number appears on that remote’s voice compatibility list. Button compatibility alone is not enough.
- A voice remote will not pair: Look up the TV’s manual and follow its generation-specific procedure. The MIC-and-MUTE method above is documented for the 2023 Quantum Pro, not as a universal VIZIO sequence.
- A universal remote will not control the TV: Recheck that you selected the TV/device mode, entered a code from that remote’s list and tested with the remote pointed at the TV. Try another listed code if POWER does not turn the set off.
- You need a replacement: Compare the exact TV model with the remote’s compatibility listing. Choose based on whether you need basic IR control or Bluetooth voice features, and confirm the current product details before ordering.
Can a connected-home assistant control the TV?
VIZIO’s 2024 HD/FHD manual says supported TVs can work with Google Assistant, Siri and Alexa-enabled devices for hands-free voice control. This is distinct from holding the remote’s push-to-talk microphone button, and it depends on the TV and connected-device setup.
