The important limitation concerns the demo-to-release transition, not ordinary saving. A save made in the demo is a different matter from a save made in the released game. The launch warning says the release may detect the demo file and show a Continue button, but that button does not mean the file is safe to use.
Can you continue a demo save in the full game?
No—not safely. Sunny Lab’s launch warning is explicit: “The game will pick-up your demo save file and show a ‘Continue’ button, but you must start a new game, since saves are incompatible and the game will get stuck at some point if you continue with your old save.”
This is a cross-build compatibility problem. The presence of a visible Continue option is not confirmation that the demo and release share a supported save format. Continuing may appear to work initially and then fail later, which is why the instruction is to begin a new game in the release build.

Safe first launch procedure after playing the demo
- Finish or exit the demo, then close it normally. Do not assume that an automatically detected file is compatible simply because the release can see it.
- Set aside or remove the old demo save before starting the release. The launch guidance specifically recommends deleting or setting aside the incompatible demo save to avoid carrying it into the new build.
- Launch the released game and choose New Game. If a Continue button appears because the demo file was detected, do not use it.
- Save again inside the release build. From this point, use the release’s own persistent saves for future sessions.
- On Steam, allow Steam Cloud to synchronize the release save. If you use more than one computer, check that the cloud status has completed before switching devices; the cloud feature does not make an incompatible demo file compatible.
The warning does not say that every demo file will fail immediately. It says the old save can make the game get stuck “at some point.” Starting over is therefore the reliable option, even if Continue looks convenient.
