There is no verified completion time for the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake yet. As of October 18, 2026, the Nintendo Switch 2 release is still scheduled for November 5, 2026, so nobody has a measured remake playthrough to report. The most useful planning proxy is the original game: about 27 hours for the main objectives and roughly 37–40 hours for a completionist run.
Those figures are estimates for the original, not promises about the remake. Nintendo has not published an official runtime or a definitive 100% checklist, and the remake’s added presentation, controls and possible content changes could move the final total.

The short answer
- Remake main story: no verified time exists before launch.
- Remake 100%: no verified time exists, and the meaning of 100% has not been officially defined.
- Best planning benchmark: the original Ocarina of Time is listed at approximately 27 hours for the main objectives.
- Original completionist estimate: about 37 hours in one current aggregate and 30–40 hours in another estimate.
- Release date: November 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, according to Nintendo’s product page.
If you are deciding how much time to reserve, use the original’s numbers as a rough schedule only. They are not tested timings for the new version.
Why an exact remake runtime is not available
The remake has not released as of October 18, 2026. That makes a measured average impossible: players, reviewers and completion trackers cannot yet record full runs on the finished software. Current pre-release reporting also says Nintendo has not announced how long the remake takes to beat.

Nintendo’s product page lists the game as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2. It describes the project as “built from the ground up for the Nintendo Switch™ 2 system” and advertises completely overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, enhanced controls and modern camera movements. Those changes confirm that this is more than a resolution adjustment, but they do not establish a number of hours.
A release date is therefore the firmest scheduling information currently available. The physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition is listed for November 5, 2026. Any article claiming a tested remake completion time before that date is necessarily using an estimate, an unverified preview or the original game as a substitute.
The original game’s available time estimates
Two current sources provide useful reference points for the original Ocarina of Time. An Acclaimed Video Games summary reproduces aggregated HowLongToBeat figures, while GameWith gives a separate completion estimate. Neither is an official Nintendo measurement, and neither measures the unreleased remake.

| Play target | Original-game estimate | What the figure represents | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main objectives | Approximately 27 hours | The principal progression path, without treating every optional activity as mandatory | Acclaimed Video Games summary of an aggregated HowLongToBeat estimate; not an official Nintendo figure |
| Main plus extra | Approximately 30 hours | The main path with additional activities included in the aggregate category | Acclaimed Video Games summary of an aggregated HowLongToBeat estimate; original game only |
| 100% completion | Approximately 37 hours | The completionist category in the same aggregate | Acclaimed Video Games summary of an aggregated HowLongToBeat estimate; original game only |
| 100% completion | 30–40 hours | A broader planning range for finishing the original comprehensively | GameWith estimate; original game only |
The safest way to combine these figures is to treat about 27 hours as the original’s story benchmark and about 37–40 hours as a practical original-game completionist planning range. The 30-hour main-plus-extra value is a separate category, not a guarantee that every player will finish all optional content in exactly 30 hours.
What “100%” can mean for the remake
Until Nintendo publishes a checklist or the finished game establishes one, “100%” should be read as a completionist target rather than a guaranteed in-game percentage. Players generally use the term to mean finishing the required story and clearing the optional objectives, collectibles and side content they consider part of a complete file. The exact boundary matters because different trackers can count different tasks.
The available 37-hour and 30–40-hour figures come from the original game’s completion categories. They may include optional collectibles and side activities beyond the critical path. They do not prove that the remake will use the same categories, retain every original objective in the same form or add a percentage counter with identical rules.
For launch planning, define your own target before starting. A story completion target means following the required progression. A completionist target means tracking every optional objective that the remake’s menus, guide or community checklist identifies as required. If the remake introduces new content or changes how collectibles are counted, its eventual 100% total could be higher or lower than the original benchmark.

Main objectives: the roughly 27-hour benchmark
The approximately 27-hour figure is the clearest answer to “How long is the main story?” It is an aggregate estimate for the original game’s main objectives. Use it when you want to finish the central progression without deliberately pursuing every optional activity.
Because it is an average-style database estimate, it is not a deadline. A player who already knows the route may move through familiar sections efficiently, while a first-time player may pause to learn controls, solve puzzles and understand where to go next. The source does not provide separate measured totals for blind, experienced and guide-assisted runs, so assigning precise numbers to those player types would be speculation.
Main plus extra: the roughly 30-hour category
The same aggregate lists approximately 30 hours for “Main+Extra.” This sits between a focused story run and a completionist file. It is useful for someone who expects to explore and complete some optional activities but does not intend to verify every item.
Do not add three hours mechanically to every 27-hour run. The categories are aggregated labels, not a stopwatch formula. The difference reflects how the database groups player reports, and individual routes can overlap rather than stack neatly.
100%: approximately 37 hours or 30–40 hours
The completionist category is approximately 37 hours in the Acclaimed Video Games summary, while GameWith estimates 30–40 hours for completing the original comprehensively. Taken together, these support a planning range of about 37–40 hours for the original when you want a conservative schedule.
Rank #3
- Play the original Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
- Or the Master Quest edition with many bonus features
That range still describes the original. It should not be presented as the remake’s confirmed runtime, especially while Nintendo has not defined the new version’s 100% requirements. Treat it as the amount of time to reserve if you want a reference point before launch, then revise your plan once the remake’s completion criteria are visible.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the remake could take a different amount of time
Nintendo has announced several presentation and control changes, but none comes with a published time impact. Voiced cutscenes and expanded dialogue could lengthen scenes for players who watch everything, while modern camera movements and enhanced controls could make navigation or combat feel faster for some people. Overhauled visuals can also encourage players to stop and explore, although there is no evidence yet that exploration areas or objectives have changed.
The phrase “built from the ground up for the Nintendo Switch™ 2 system” describes Nintendo’s development approach, not a runtime promise. It does not establish whether the remake preserves the original pacing, adds quests, rearranges objectives or changes collectible requirements. Those details are precisely why an original-game estimate must remain a proxy.

Even if the remake contains the same broad progression, loading behavior, dialogue presentation and control scheme can alter how long a personal session feels. None of those factors justifies inventing a new hour range before release. The responsible answer is to identify the original benchmark and label every uncertainty.
How to plan your own playthrough before launch
- Choose your target. Decide whether you want the main objectives, main plus extra activities or a completionist file. This prevents a story run from turning into an unplanned search for every optional item.
- Reserve the original benchmark as a baseline. Set aside about 27 hours for the original-style main path, or about 37–40 hours if your pre-launch schedule is based on the original’s completionist estimates. Keep the word “about” in your plan.
- Leave room for discovery. The remake’s release version may present new dialogue, scenes, controls or objectives. Avoid scheduling a completionist run so tightly that a newly revealed requirement makes the plan impossible.
- Track optional progress separately. Use the remake’s own menus or a current checklist after launch. Mark story objectives and optional tasks in separate groups so you can stop at a clear endpoint without losing your place.
- Recalculate after your first session. Compare your actual pace with the original benchmark. If puzzles, exploration or voiced scenes are taking longer than expected, update the remaining schedule instead of treating the pre-release estimate as a promise.
- Record what your definition includes. When you report your final time, say whether you mean story completion, main plus extras or a completionist target. This makes your number comparable with the published categories.
What information will settle the question after release
A reliable remake answer will require more than the launch date. Look for a finished-game checklist that explains which objectives count toward completion, then compare several player reports using the same target. A single speed-focused run cannot stand in for a completionist average, and a completionist file cannot answer the main-story question.
The most useful post-launch reports will identify the version played, the completion target and whether a guide was used. They should also distinguish a first playthrough from a replay by someone familiar with the original. Until that information exists, the original’s 27-hour story estimate and 37–40-hour completionist planning range are the strongest defensible references.
Practical verdict
If you only need the headline, plan for approximately 27 hours based on the original’s main-objectives estimate, and approximately 37–40 hours if you want an original-style completionist schedule. Do not call either figure the remake’s confirmed runtime. The Switch 2 remake is scheduled for November 5, 2026, remains unreleased on October 18, 2026, and has no official 100% definition or measured completion time yet.
