The period and update schedule depend on the exact phone. Samsung’s current Mobile Security page is the place to check whether a model is listed and how often it is scheduled to receive updates.
How long is Samsung’s security-update commitment?
Samsung’s Mobile Security page says that, as of January 2024, it extended security-update support for Galaxy devices by “up to 7 years.” That wording applies to eligible devices, not every Galaxy phone. The commitment for a particular model depends on its own support policy.

For the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung specifies seven years of security updates starting from the initial global launch date. Samsung announced the same seven-year period from global launch for the Galaxy S25 series.

How support periods differ by Galaxy model
| Device or policy | Samsung’s stated security support | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 series | Seven years from initial global launch | Applies to the S26 series, not automatically to all Galaxy phones. |
| Galaxy S25 series | Seven years from global launch | A separate series-specific commitment. |
| Galaxy A56, A36, and A26 | Six years | Samsung also announced up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades for these named models; this does not establish the same term for the entire A series. |
| Select Galaxy devices under Samsung’s 2022 policy | Up to five years | A historical policy for select devices, not a universal term. |
| Listed Galaxy devices launched since 2019 under Samsung’s 2021 announcement | At least four years | Applies to the devices covered by that announcement; it does not establish a single end date for every phone launched since 2019. |
Samsung’s announcements describe policy commitments, not a guarantee that each patch will arrive on a particular day. Policies and device schedules can change, so use the current model listing rather than inferring support from a phone’s age or series name.

How to check whether your Galaxy is still receiving updates
- Find the phone’s exact model name or model number in the device settings or on its packaging.
- Open Samsung’s Mobile Security updates page and look for that exact model in the supported-device listings.
- Check the schedule Samsung shows for the device. Eligible phones can be assigned different cadences, such as monthly or quarterly; not every supported phone receives a monthly update.
A phone’s presence on a list and its listed cadence are more useful than a general claim about Samsung phones. Unless Samsung publishes a final patch date for that model, the schedule should not be treated as an exact end-of-support date.
What the number of support years does—and does not—tell you
The stated years help compare the published support commitment for two specific models, but they do not by themselves identify the date of the phone’s last patch. For a useful comparison, check the promised number of years, the date from which Samsung counts them, whether the exact model is listed now, and its current update cadence. A newer launch date alone does not establish a particular support term.
