There isn’t one reliable time for beating an SNES game. The answer depends on the specific title and what you count as “beating” it: reaching the credits, completing some optional content, or finishing everything. For a useful estimate, look up the game and compare times for the same kind of play.
Why there’s no single SNES completion time
Available completion-time sources report estimates game by game, rather than a representative average for the entire SNES library. Without a specific title, any platform-wide number of hours or range would be misleading.

Even for one game, estimates can refer to different goals. A time for reaching the ending is not comparable to a time for finding optional content or completing every objective.

What “beat the game” can mean
Completion-time databases use different labels, but their categories generally distinguish these scopes:
#1 Best Overall
- 900 IN 1 GAME CARTRIDGE: Includes 900 built-in classic games, offering endless entertainment in one convenient cartridge.
- COMPATIBLE WITH SNES: Designed specifically for 16-bit Super Nintendo consoles, ensuring seamless plug-and-play performance.
- MASSIVE GAME LIBRARY: Enjoy a huge variety of genres including action, adventure, sports, and puzzle games all in one package.
- EASY TO USE: Simply insert the cartridge into your SNES console and select from the on-screen game menu to start playing instantly.
- GREAT FOR RETRO GAMING: Perfect for fans of classic 16-bit gaming, bringing back nostalgic favorites and discovering new ones.
- Main story or credits: finish the central game and reach its ending or credits.
- Story plus extras: finish the main story and take on some optional content.
- Completionist or 100%: pursue all or nearly all tracked objectives and content.
HowLongToBeat describes community-sourced estimates for main story, main story plus extras, completionist play, and all styles. IGDB documents estimates for reaching credits, completing the game with some extras, and reaching 100% completion. The labels are not identical across services, so check each source’s definition before comparing figures.
How to find a useful estimate for a particular game
- Search for the exact game title. A title-specific entry is necessary; the console alone is not enough to produce a meaningful estimate.
- Choose the category that matches your goal. Compare credits-to-credits, extras-to-extras, or completionist-to-completionist rather than mixing scopes.
- Check how the figure was produced. Note whether the source reports an average or median and, when shown, how many players submitted times or contributed to a poll.
- Record the source and when you checked it. Community databases can change as reports are added, so a game-specific estimate should be attributed to the database and retrieval date.
HowLongToBeat identifies its completion-time categories as community-sourced. CORGIS documents playtime fields collected from crowd-sourced HowLongToBeat data, including average main-story and completionist times and poll counts. IGDB’s API documentation describes its time-to-beat categories and submission counts. These sources explain how estimates are organized; they do not establish a current, validated average for all SNES games.

How much confidence should you place in a reported time?
These figures summarize player reports; they are estimates, not promises about how long an individual run will take. A submission count helps show how much player evidence a particular estimate draws on, while knowing whether the statistic is an average or median helps explain what the figure represents. Neither makes it a guaranteed finish time.
Your own result may differ because your run is not the same as the reports in a database. Skill, familiarity, difficulty, retries, and emulator features could affect an individual run, but the cited sources do not establish standard adjustments for those factors.

What to do if you want an actual number
Look up the specific SNES game in a current game-time database and select the estimate matching your intended scope. If you share the title, a useful answer should name the source, the category, the date checked, and any submission count shown. Without a game title, the evidence supports no defensible number of hours for “an SNES game.”
