Apple does not give a fixed download time for Apple Intelligence. Its guidance says the on-device models start downloading after you update your device software, and that the time varies. Apple recommends Wi-Fi and power while the models download.
What the download time includes
Apple describes two sequential steps: first, update the device software; then the on-device Apple Intelligence models start downloading. Apple publishes no estimate for either step, so the model-download time should not be confused with the time needed to download and install the software update. There is no official estimate in minutes or hours, nor a published formula based on device, network speed, or software version. Apple’s setup guidance says, “time to download varies.”

How to help the models download
Keep the device connected to Wi-Fi and a power source while the models are downloading. Apple recommends both for the fastest model-download experience, but does not specify a minimum Wi-Fi speed or promise a particular time savings. A faster router or charger is not a guaranteed shortcut.

What to check if the download has not started or seems stuck
- Confirm the software update is complete. Apple says the model download starts after the device software has been updated.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and power. Leave both connected while the models download.
- Check device storage. Apple’s support guidance gives different storage requirements for different software generations: one page lists 7 GB; newer-generation guidance says up to 8 GB for other supported devices and up to 14 GB for specified newer or higher-memory devices. These figures describe device storage, not the download size or time. Check the current Apple Intelligence requirements for your device and software rather than treating one figure as universal.
- Verify device, software, and language eligibility. Apple lists supported device families and software versions, and requires the device language and Siri language to match a supported language. If you change Siri’s language, Apple says Apple Intelligence may be unavailable until the language finishes downloading and matches the device language. See Apple’s setup requirements.
- Check regional availability. Availability can vary by platform, language, and region. Apple describes restrictions for China mainland, so the setup and availability should not be assumed to be identical everywhere. Consult Apple’s regional availability guidance.
Why you cannot calculate an exact time
Apple does not publish a download-time statistic or timed benchmark by device, connection, or software version. Without an official estimate or formula, there is no reliable way to predict how many minutes or hours the models will take on a particular device and network.
