Samsung Galaxy phones do not all receive the same support period. The Galaxy S25 and S26 series are promised seven generations of Android/One UI upgrades and seven years of security updates, counted from global launch. Older eligible models have shorter commitments, so check the exact model rather than assuming every Galaxy gets seven years.
How many years of updates does a Samsung Galaxy get?
It depends on the model and its published commitment. Samsung’s 2025 announcement for the Galaxy S25 series and 2026 announcement for the Galaxy S26 series each promise seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from global launch. Samsung’s S25 announcement and S26 announcement state those terms.

Samsung said its offer of up to seven years of mobile security updates began with the Galaxy S24 series. That security statement does not, by itself, establish how many Android/One UI upgrades each S24 model receives. Check a model-specific source for its OS-upgrade promise. Samsung’s 2024 security announcement describes the security-update offer.

For selected devices covered by a 2022 policy, Samsung described up to four generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and up to five years of security updates. The same announcement said some devices outside that commitment could receive up to three OS generations. These are historical policy categories, not a complete current list of eligible models. Samsung’s 2022 policy announcement has the details.

Android upgrades and security updates are different
An OS-upgrade commitment counts generations of Android and Samsung’s One UI software. A security-update commitment measures the period during which Samsung provides security patches. The figures are separate promises: for example, seven years of security updates should not be read as seven Android-version upgrades unless Samsung also states that OS commitment for the model.
Security support also does not necessarily mean a monthly patch for the entire period. Samsung’s Security Update Scope lists devices on monthly, quarterly, or biannual schedules. The list can change, and delivery timing may vary by model, market, and network provider. Samsung’s Security Updates page provides current release information.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

How to check whether your Galaxy is still supported
- Identify the full model. Include its generation and, where relevant, regional or carrier variant; a broad family name may not be enough to confirm the commitment.
- Find the model-specific promise. Look for a Samsung announcement that states the number of OS-upgrade generations and the years of security updates separately.
- Check when the term begins. For the cited S25 and S26 promises, Samsung counts from global launch. Do not calculate a final patch date from a broad policy if the model’s launch date and applicable commitment are uncertain.
- Check Samsung’s live scope list. Search the current Security Update Scope for the model and note whether it is listed monthly, quarterly, or biannually. A past announcement does not establish its current cadence.
- Allow for delivery differences. Samsung says availability and timing can vary by model, market, and network provider.
How to compare support before choosing a phone
Compare the same support measures rather than treating an OS-generation count and a security-support period as interchangeable.
- OS upgrades: How many Android/One UI generations does Samsung promise for this exact model?
- Security updates: For how many years are security updates promised?
- Start of the term: Is the period counted from global launch or another stated date?
- Current delivery: Is the model still on Samsung’s scope list, and what cadence does the live list show for it?
- Variant and location: Does the commitment apply to the specific regional or carrier version you are considering?
Samsung’s published periods are manufacturer commitments, not independent measurements of how long phones remain usable or how much those updates reduce security risk. The official materials cited here do not give a complete end-date table for every Galaxy model, regional variant, and carrier version; consult Samsung’s current model and security-support information for a specific device.
