It depends on the country and prize-bond scheme. Pakistan publishes settlement times based on claim value and payment method; Ireland’s estimate starts after State Savings confirms it has processed an EFT; and the UK’s NS&I gives a normal monthly payment date for ordinary Premium Bonds prizes. These are different clocks, so first identify your issuer and whether you are waiting to file a claim or waiting for an already-filed claim to be paid.
Prize bond processing times at a glance
| Country and issuer | What the stated time measures | Official timing |
|---|---|---|
| Pakistan — State Bank of Pakistan | Settlement after a claim is lodged; varies by amount and payment route | Up to Rs. 18,500: direct credit T+1 or cash the same day. Up to Rs. 1,000,000: five working days. Above Rs. 1,000,000: 15 working days. State Bank of Pakistan National Prize Bonds FAQ |
| Ireland — Ireland State Savings | Bank receipt after the issuer confirms EFT processing | Three to five working days, assuming valid IBAN details. Ireland State Savings EFT guidance |
| United Kingdom — NS&I Premium Bonds | Normal timing for ordinary monthly prizes paid to a bank account | Normally by the seventh working day of the month. NS&I Premium Bonds |
These are issuer-published process estimates, not a shared international standard or a guarantee that every payment arrives by that point. The UK timing is for ordinary prizes; high-value claims and postal cheques follow different handling.

Pakistan: filing eligibility is separate from claim settlement
When you can lodge a claim
Pakistan’s Directorate of National Savings says claims can usually be lodged four to five working days after the draw, and must be made within six years. It attributes the post-draw wait to preparation, printing, and dispatch of winning-bond lists to National Savings Centres, which usually takes three to four days. Its FAQ says claims can be lodged after two working days, while State Bank of Pakistan guidance also refers to claims after two working days. Because the official pages do not agree on the earliest filing date, confirm the applicable date with the office where you plan to claim rather than adding this wait to the settlement estimate. Documents and where to claim
The Directorate of National Savings says to submit the prescribed claim form with a valid CNIC photocopy, the original winning bond, and a photocopy of the bond signed on the back. Its FAQ says claims up to Rs. 1,250 may be made at a National Savings Centre, an authorized scheduled-bank branch, or a State Bank of Pakistan branch; claims above Rs. 1,250 are made only at State Bank branches. It says there is no claim-form charge. Verify the appropriate office and current filing rules before travelling. Directorate of National Savings claim guidance
Ireland: the EFT clock starts after processing confirmation
Ireland State Savings says EFT funds should appear in the nominated bank account within three to five working days after State Savings confirms that it has processed the payment. EFTs are processed on business days, and the estimate assumes the IBAN details are valid. This is not a countdown from the prize draw or notification. Ireland State Savings EFT guidance
Winners can choose payment to a nominated bank account or automatic reinvestment in new Prize Bonds. Bank-account payment requires account details and proof validating the IBAN; the account must be in the bondholder’s name, or in the joint names for a joint holding. Winners are notified by post or online, and registered online users may be notified on draw day. If no bank details are provided, the payment selection defaults to reinvestment. Incorrect details can delay payment or result in funds reaching the wrong account; State Savings says it is not responsible for delays caused by the recipient’s bank. United Kingdom: ordinary prizes follow a monthly schedule
NS&I says ordinary Premium Bonds prizes paid directly to a bank account are normally received by the seventh working day of the month. Reinvestment is also available. A postal cheque can take longer, arriving as late as the end of the month. NS&I Premium Bonds
High-value claims and late payments
For prizes of £25,000, £50,000, or £100,000, NS&I sends a claim form that the winner must complete and return before payment. If a direct payment has not arrived after the seventh working day, NS&I advises contacting it to check that the bank details are correct. That date is a point to follow up, not a promise that a late payment will resolve automatically. NS&I Premium Bonds NS&I help with missing prize payments
Do not confuse prize payments with withdrawals of the original bond investment: NS&I separately says withdrawals of bond principal can take three to five days, which is a different process. NS&I help guidance
Quick Recap

What to check if payment is taking longer
- Confirm the scheme and the clock’s start point. Check whether the estimate begins at the draw, claim submission, or issuer confirmation that payment was processed.
- Check the correct time unit. The cited estimates use working days or a working-day-of-the-month date, not necessarily calendar days.
- Review claim requirements and payment details. Missing documents, bond verification, invalid account information, or bank-side processing may extend the wait.
- Contact the issuer or claim office when its stated timing has passed. In the UK, NS&I specifically advises checking bank details if a direct prize payment is still missing after the seventh working day.
