Waymo’s nationwide commercial robotaxi fleet numbered more than 4,000 vehicles as of September 1, 2026, according to reporting by Axios and TechCrunch. That is the latest sourced threshold available here, not an exact count for October 2026 or a tally of every vehicle Waymo owns, tests, or has in production.
What does “more than 4,000” count?
The figure refers to Waymo’s nationwide commercial robotaxi fleet: vehicles associated with its public autonomous ride-hailing service. It does not establish the number of vehicles in testing, storage, reserve, or production, and the reports do not provide an audited breakdown by status.

Waymo describes its public ride-hailing service as Waymo, through which riders request trips in the Waymo app. The company’s service description is available on its Waymo service page.
How current is the fleet figure?
Axios and TechCrunch reported the fleet had passed 4,000 vehicles as Waymo opened public service in Denver, San Diego, and Tampa on September 1, 2026. Both accounts use a lower-bound phrase—more than 4,000—not an exact census. Fleet size and deployment can change, so this should be treated as a dated figure rather than a current-day inventory.
#1 Best Overall
There is no established exact count here for all Waymo vehicles across commercial service, testing, staging, and production. Those categories should not be combined unless a source defines what it counts.
What vehicles are in the fleet?
September 2026 coverage identified Jaguar I-PACE vehicles and newer Ojai minivans in the commercial fleet. Waymo says it is rolling out Ojai vehicles operated by its sixth-generation Waymo Driver. It has also described adapting the Driver to additional vehicle platforms, including Hyundai IONIQ 5 vehicles driven with an autonomous specialist present. That development detail does not mean those vehicles are part of the reported commercial fleet count.

Waymo’s official information on its vehicle platform and rollout is available at Waymo’s sixth-generation Driver announcement.
How does the fleet size relate to Waymo’s ride volume?
Waymo said it was serving over 1 million fully autonomous rides per month in spring 2025, and set a target of reaching 1 million fully autonomous rides per week by the end of 2026. The first is a reported monthly milestone; the second is a company target, not a verified result or vehicle count. Waymo’s announcement is available at Waymo’s ride-volume update.

- Authentic 1:24-1:27 scale model kit
- Die-cast metal body with plastic parts
- Working steering and opening doors
- No glue or paint needed
Ride totals cannot be used to calculate the number of cars. The relationship depends on factors such as how intensively vehicles are used, where they operate, service hours, and which vehicles count as part of the fleet.
