Their effect on earnings depends on costs, expenses, taxes and share count; their effect on Apple’s stock price depends on investor expectations and other market news, not on sales alone. In fiscal Q3 2026, iPhone net sales were $54.252 billion, about 49.6% of Apple’s $109.417 billion in total net sales.
How iPhone sales flow into Apple’s revenue
Apple reports net sales by product category, including iPhone, Mac, iPad, Wearables, Home and Accessories, and Services. iPhone net sales are included in the company’s total net sales; they are not a separate amount added on top of that total. When iPhone net sales rise, they lift consolidated revenue directly, assuming the other categories are unchanged.

That makes iPhone a major source of Apple’s business, but not the whole business. Services and the other product categories also contribute to total sales. For fiscal Q3 2026, Services generated $30.739 billion in net sales, while the remaining categories contributed the balance alongside iPhone. A change in iPhone results therefore matters in proportion to its scale, but it does not by itself describe everything happening across Apple.

Apple’s reported category figures are dollar amounts, not counts of devices sold. A rise in iPhone net sales does not establish how many phones customers bought or whether unit volume rose by the same percentage. Sales dollars can reflect more than one factor, and the financial statements cited here do not provide a unit-sales figure that would support converting revenue into units.

How much of Apple’s revenue comes from iPhone?
Apple reported $54.252 billion in iPhone net sales out of $109.417 billion in total net sales in fiscal Q3 2026. Dividing the category figure by the total gives approximately 49.6%, or just under half. The quarter ended June 27, 2026; Apple announced the results on July 30, 2026. These are reported net-sales figures, expressed in millions of dollars in the financial statements and shown here in billions.
| Period | iPhone net sales | Comparison or context |
|---|---|---|
| Fiscal Q3 2026, ended June 27, 2026 | $54.252 billion | $109.417 billion in total company net sales; iPhone was approximately 49.6% of the total. |
| Fiscal Q3 2025, ended June 28, 2025 | $44.582 billion | Year-earlier comparison for the same fiscal quarter. |
| Fiscal 2026 first nine months | $196.515 billion | Compared with $160.561 billion in the corresponding first nine months of fiscal 2025. |
| Fiscal Q2 2026 | $56.994 billion | March-quarter result, compared with $46.841 billion in fiscal Q2 2025. |
| Fiscal year 2025 | $209.586 billion | Annual iPhone net sales; fiscal year ended September 27, 2025. |
The table separates quarters, nine-month totals and a full fiscal year because they cover different lengths of time. Comparing a nine-month figure with a single quarter, for example, would not show a like-for-like trend. Fiscal quarters also do not necessarily align with calendar quarters, so the period end is useful context when comparing Apple results with other companies or calendar-year events.
What the year-over-year change shows—and what it does not
Fiscal Q3 2026 iPhone net sales were $9.670 billion higher than the $44.582 billion reported for fiscal Q3 2025. Using those two reported amounts, the increase was about 21.7% year over year. For the first nine months of fiscal 2026, iPhone net sales were $35.954 billion above the corresponding 2025 amount, an increase of about 22.4% based on the reported figures.

These comparisons establish that Apple reported higher iPhone net sales for those periods. They do not establish the number of units sold, the contribution of any particular model, or why the dollar amount changed. Nor do they tell us whether the result was better than investors expected. Those are separate questions that require evidence beyond the category revenue comparison.
There was also a strong March-quarter comparison before the June-quarter results. Apple said fiscal Q2 2026 iPhone revenue set a March-quarter record and attributed it to demand for the iPhone 17 lineup. The statements show $56.994 billion in Q2 iPhone net sales, compared with $46.841 billion in the year-earlier quarter. This is Apple’s explanation of its result; it is not an independent measurement of how much any one model contributed.
Why revenue does not translate one-for-one into profit
Revenue is the amount reported from sales; profit is what remains after relevant costs and expenses. Higher iPhone net sales can support Apple’s financial results, but a 10% increase in category revenue does not imply a 10% increase in net income or earnings per share (EPS). Apple reports revenue, gross margin, operating income, net income and diluted EPS as distinct measures because each reflects different parts of the business and financial calculation.

- Product costs and mix: The cost of producing and delivering products affects how much revenue remains after costs of sales. A different mix of products can change the margin outcome even when category revenue rises.
- Operating expenses: Research and development, selling, general and administrative expenses and other operating items affect operating income after gross profit.
- Other categories: Services and Apple’s other product lines contribute their own revenue and financial results. Consolidated performance is not determined by iPhone alone.
- Taxes and share count: Net income reflects taxes and other items, while diluted EPS also depends on the weighted average diluted share count. The share count means that a change in net income need not produce the same percentage change in EPS.
Apple’s Q3 2026 results illustrate why those lines should be read separately. The company reported total quarterly revenue of $109.4 billion, up 16% year over year, and gross margin of 50.1%. Apple said tariff refunds had a favorable effect of approximately two percentage points on gross margin. That margin detail is important context: the reported rate was affected by a factor beyond the simple change in iPhone sales. It would be misleading to attribute the whole margin result to iPhone revenue.
In the same release, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company had its strongest June quarter ever, with double-digit revenue growth across iPhone, Mac and Services, and in every geographic segment. CFO Kevan Parekh said the quarter set June-quarter records for both EPS and operating cash flow. These statements summarize Apple’s reported performance and management’s view; they do not establish that iPhone alone produced the company-wide records.

Not automatically. A strong iPhone report can influence how investors assess Apple’s growth, margins, customer base and potential for future Services revenue. But a share price reflects expectations about future results and risk as well as reported results. If investors already anticipated strong sales, an increase may not be a surprise. If a result or outlook falls short of expectations, a stock can decline even when sales are higher than in the year-earlier quarter.

A share-price move around an earnings announcement may also reflect information unrelated to iPhone sales. Apple’s overall results, its outlook, developments in other businesses, economic conditions, trade policy, competition and broad-market movements can all matter at the same time. Without a specific analysis separating those influences, it is not possible to say how much a particular iPhone report caused a particular move in Apple shares.
The company’s Q3 2026 release identifies risks including economic conditions, government policy and trade disputes, geopolitical tensions, competition and rapidly changing markets, dependence on third parties for components and services, IT and network disruptions, data protection issues, and legal or regulatory matters. Apple does not quantify each risk’s separate effect on iPhone demand or its share price in that release. The listed risks are reasons not to treat one category’s revenue as a complete explanation of the stock.
A practical way to read an iPhone result as an investor
Keep the accounting result, the company’s explanation and the market’s reaction in separate steps. That helps avoid treating a headline revenue figure as a forecast or a stock-price explanation.
- Identify the period and metric. Confirm whether the figure is for a fiscal quarter, a year-to-date period or a full fiscal year. Check that it is iPhone net sales in dollars, not an assumed unit count.
- Make a like-for-like comparison. Compare the same fiscal quarter with the prior year, or the same number of fiscal months. Note the period-end dates because Apple’s fiscal periods differ from calendar quarters.
- Put iPhone in the company context. Compare category net sales with total net sales and consider what Services and the other product categories contributed. A large category can be important without being the only driver.
- Read the profit lines separately. Check gross margin, operating income, net income and diluted EPS rather than assuming revenue growth carried through at the same rate. Look for disclosed factors such as the tariff-refund effect Apple identified in Q3 2026.
- Separate actual results from expectations. The year-over-year comparison answers whether sales were higher or lower than a year earlier. It does not answer whether the result beat what investors had priced in or what management had guided investors to expect.
- Consider concurrent information before explaining a stock move. A daily share-price change cannot, by itself, isolate the contribution of iPhone sales. Check for simultaneous company news and broader market or economic developments before assigning a cause.
Apple’s fiscal Q3 release points readers to the company’s SEC-filed Form 10-K and Form 10-Q for additional risk-factor and management’s discussion and analysis detail. Those filings can help put the earnings release in context, but they do not turn a single quarter’s category sales into a guaranteed forecast of future earnings or share performance.
