The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra offers 3x and 10x optical zoom through two dedicated telephoto cameras, and advertises a maximum of 100x Space Zoom. That 100x figure is not optical zoom: Samsung describes it as 10x optical zoom combined with 10x digital zoom and AI Super Resolution. Samsung also cautions that zooming past 10x may cause image deterioration.
What zoom cameras does the S22 Ultra have?
Samsung lists two 10MP telephoto cameras on the Galaxy S22 Ultra: one with 3x optical zoom and another with 10x optical zoom. The phone also has a 108MP wide camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera, but those are not additional telephoto zoom levels. Samsung notes that specifications may vary by market and carrier. How does 100x Space Zoom work?
Samsung’s advertised 100x maximum is a hybrid zoom figure, not a promise of 100x optical magnification. Samsung defines Space Zoom as 10x optical zoom plus 10x digital zoom, with AI Super Resolution. The company described that combination in its 2022 Galaxy S22 Ultra launch announcement.

In practical terms, the 10x telephoto camera provides the phone’s longest dedicated optical level. At greater magnifications, the phone relies on digital and computational processing to extend the view. Samsung’s product specifications state: “Zooming in past 10x may cause some image deterioration.”

What should you expect when zooming in?
The specifications establish the advertised zoom levels, but they do not guarantee a particular level of detail at every magnification. The cited Samsung materials do not provide a controlled comparison across lighting, subject movement, phone stability or output size, so there is no evidence-based universal point at which a zoomed image becomes unusable.

- For a usable shot: Consider the light, whether the subject is moving, how steadily you can hold the phone and how large you plan to view or print the image. These factors matter when judging a particular photo, but the cited specifications do not quantify their effects.
