Finish every online verification before you travel, then bring the same valid, unexpired government photo ID in its original physical form. Keep your phone charged, prepare for a short processing queue, and check the venue’s own age and check-in rules because a tournament hall can demand a physical document even after an online account is verified.
Start with the event’s exact ID rules
There is no universal “LAN ID.” The organizer, country, age bracket and competition platform determine which documents count. Open the specific event’s rules page and find its accepted-document list before registering a player account or booking travel. Use that list as the authority rather than assuming that a document accepted at one tournament will work at another.

FACEIT’s published country matrix, for example, accepts only listed, valid and unexpired government documents. Depending on the issuing country, the list may include a passport, national identity card, driver’s licence or residence card. A school card, workplace badge, photocopy or expired document is not a safe substitute unless the organizer explicitly names it.
Match your registration details
Enter your legal name, date of birth and country of residence exactly as they appear in the document and in the organizer’s account. Differences in spelling, order of names, accents or residence country can send a submission to manual review. Do not create a second account to work around a mismatch; that can create an additional rules problem.

Check validity and condition
- Confirm the expiry date is after the tournament’s verification date.
- Make sure every security feature and machine-readable area is visible and undamaged.
- Use the original document, not a scan displayed on another phone or a printed copy.
- Verify whether the event requires a minimum remaining validity period; some organizers publish a stricter rule than the document issuer.
Which document should you use?
When several documents are accepted, choose the one that is easiest to present clearly and least likely to create an age or residence question. The table shows the practical trade-offs; the final decision must follow the event’s country-specific list.

Do not infer acceptance from the document’s appearance. A driver’s licence that works at a domestic event may not satisfy a cross-border competition’s residence or age requirement.
Complete digital verification at home

- Open the verification area. Sign in to the correct account and open its verification tab or the event’s verification link.
- Select the issuing country. Choose the country that issued the document, not the country where you are currently attending the LAN.
- Prepare the live capture. Allow camera access and follow the on-screen prompts for a live selfie or face video. The account owner must perform this capture.
- Scan the document. Place the full document inside the frame, remove glare, and keep text and portrait sharp. Capture both sides if the flow requests them.
- Submit and monitor status. Wait for the confirmation screen or status change. Save the support contact and any submission reference in case the organizer needs to locate the attempt.
FACEIT describes the requirement as a government-issued identification photo together with a live photo capture. Verification is mandatory for selected ESEA Advanced groups, and future competitions may require a verified status as well, so complete it before a roster deadline rather than immediately before a match.
Set up the phone for a clean capture
- Use a current smartphone with a functioning front and rear camera, a stable internet connection and enough battery for a second attempt.
- Stand in even light facing a window or diffuse lamp. Avoid strong backlighting, colored LEDs and shadows across your eyes.
- Remove sunglasses, hats, masks and anything that changes your normal appearance unless the verification instructions allow it.
- Clean both camera lenses and hold the phone at eye level. Keep your entire face inside the guide without tilting or rapidly moving.
- Use the document’s physical surface. Screenshots, photographs of another person’s ID and edited images do not establish that you possess the document.
Bring the physical ID to the venue
Online approval does not guarantee admission. Venue staff can apply a separate check-in rule, and they may need to see the original document even when a platform displays a verified badge.
Riot Games’ Berlin live-event policy illustrates the distinction: it states that a physical photo ID is required for age verification. The policy also says attendees must be at least 12, sets guardian and departure-time requirements for minors, and allows late attendees to be checked in. Those details belong to that event; another organizer can set a different age threshold or guardian process.

Pack for quick access
- Place the original ID in a protective passport or ID holder and keep it in a reachable pocket, not buried in checked luggage.
- Carry the same document used for the online submission so staff are not comparing two identities.
- Keep a charged phone, charging cable or power bank, and—when practical—a second smartphone available for a camera or battery failure.
- Save the event rules, check-in address and support contact offline in case venue connectivity is poor.
A holder is optional equipment, not a tournament requirement. Its value is preventing scratches, bending and frantic searching at the desk.

Build time for queues and manual review
FACEIT says processing queues can take up to 15 minutes during peak intervals. That is a platform estimate, not an industry-wide average and not a promise that every submission will finish within 15 minutes. A failed capture, document mismatch or manual review can take longer.
Work backward from your first scheduled obligation. Finish the digital check days before travel, arrive early enough to absorb a 15-minute queue plus security and bag checks, and avoid scheduling a meal, transport connection or warm-up immediately after the advertised opening time. If the organizer publishes a check-in window, treat its closing time as the hard deadline even if late arrivals may still be admitted.

Fix the common failure modes
Face match fails
Retry in neutral, even lighting with your face centered and unobstructed. Remove glasses if the instructions permit, keep a natural expression and follow the movement prompts slowly. A different person cannot complete the capture for you. FACEIT states that support cannot bypass a failed face match or manually verify a different account owner.
The camera will not focus or the page freezes
Clean the lens, close other camera apps, update the browser, switch between reliable Wi-Fi and mobile data, and restart the phone. If the device still fails, use the backup smartphone while remaining signed in to the account that owns the verification. Do not send your document through an unofficial chat or personal email address.

Confirm that the issuing country and document type match the selection, that every edge is visible, and that the document is unexpired. Reflections, cropped corners, low resolution and damage over the portrait or date fields commonly trigger rejection. If the event’s list does not include your document, contact the organizer before traveling; substituting an unlisted card at the desk is unlikely to solve the problem.

Status remains pending
Allow the stated queue time, then check the platform’s status page and your event email. Keep the submission reference and contact support through the designated channel. Submitting repeated attempts from several accounts can make the identity trail harder to resolve.
Protect copies and personal information
An ID image contains more information than a tournament bracket needs. ESL’s privacy notice says tournament participants may be asked for an ID copy to verify identity, age and country of residence. It also says documents sent outside designated secure portals are not accepted.
- Upload only through the organizer’s named verification portal or the platform flow embedded in the event instructions.
- Read the redaction directions before covering anything. Do not obscure fields the organizer says it must verify, and do not add unrequested personal data.
- Check the address bar and account name before uploading. A look-alike form or unsolicited direct message is not an approved channel.
- Delete extra copies from shared computers, temporary camera folders and messaging apps after the organizer’s retention instructions allow it.
- Never post an ID photograph in a team Discord, public ticket or social-media thread.
If you are unsure whether a copy is required, ask the event’s official support contact what it needs and how long it retains the file. A request for an ID outside the published process should be treated as suspicious until confirmed.

Age verification can involve more than the player’s document. Read the event’s minor policy for minimum age, guardian consent, who must remain on site, permitted departure times and the documents a guardian must carry. Riot’s Berlin policy is an example of this layered approach: it sets a 12-plus attendance rule and additional guardian and departure requirements.
Bring any required consent form in the format specified by the organizer, and ensure the guardian named on the form is the person who arrives. A player who is old enough to attend may still need a guardian for check-in or departure under that event’s policy.
A practical decision path
Use this sequence when deciding what to do next:
- Does the event publish an accepted-document list? If yes, choose one listed document. If no, ask the organizer in writing before booking travel.
- Is online verification required or available? Complete it at home with the account owner’s phone and record the confirmation.
- Does the venue require physical ID? Assume yes unless the rules explicitly say digital proof is sufficient, and carry the original.
- Are you under the event’s adult age threshold? Follow the guardian, consent and departure instructions rather than relying on a player pass alone.
- Did the scan fail? Correct lighting, framing, document selection and device issues; then use official support. Never use another person’s document.
Event-day checklist
- Original, valid government photo ID used for registration
- Verified account status or submission confirmation
- Charged primary phone, cable and power bank
- Backup smartphone where practical
- Offline copy of rules, venue address and support contact
- Guardian paperwork for a minor, if required
- Secure holder or wallet that keeps the document accessible
With the document list checked, digital capture completed and physical ID ready, identity verification becomes a short administrative stop instead of a travel-day gamble.
