A digital die-bonding alignment system described by Electronics For You combines separate camera views of a chip and its target in software, rather than using a beamsplitter to optically combine those views. Its reported feature for obscured marks is to save a chip image before pickup and overlay it on the live target view afterward. The report describes a different alignment display—not evidence that all beamsplitter optics or other die-bonder functions are eliminated, or that accuracy, yield, speed, or cost improves by a measured amount.
How the digital alignment view works
The approach reported by Electronics For You uses two cameras: an upward-facing camera captures the chip, while a downward-facing camera captures the substrate or target. Software combines the images into one alignment view for the operator. In the conventional arrangement, a beamsplitter optically overlays the two views.

The report says the operator can align in X, Y, and theta, and adjust how the combined images appear. Described controls include transparency, scale, zoom, contrast, brightness, and rotation; additional overlays can also be added. These are image-presentation and alignment capabilities as reported, not published measurements of placement performance.
Why save a chip image before pickup?
A pickup tool can cover a chip feature that the operator needs as an alignment reference. The reported workflow captures that feature before pickup, stores it, then overlays the stored reference on the live substrate view after the chip has been picked up. This can preserve a reference that becomes hidden during handling; it cannot recover a feature that was not captured or identified beforehand.

What changes compared with a beamsplitter?
Electronics For You says a physical beamsplitter adds glass to the optical path and may introduce reflections, ghost images, focus shifts, reduced light reaching cameras, and additional mechanical and optical alignment demands. The report says software image combination reduces those optical and mechanical variables. These are qualitative claims in the report, not results from a controlled comparison of accuracy, throughput, yield, reliability, or cost.
Tresky’s documentation for its conventional flip-chip equipment describes a beamsplitter-based optical overlay, an integrated Ultra HD camera, digital magnification, and LED illumination. That documentation helps explain the established optical approach, but it is vendor information and does not independently compare that equipment with the newly reported digital method. Keep platform specifications separate from the new method
Tresky’s published figures describe particular equipment and options, not verified performance of the digital image-combination approach. Its T-5300 / T-5300-W page lists placement accuracy of ±10 µm, with less than ±1 µm optional depending on process and option. It lists flip-chip optical resolutions of 1.25 µm and 0.625 µm for two options. The page also describes a manual XY placement stage, programmable Z axis, and options including flip-chip equipment and a color camera. T-5300 / T-5300-W specifications

Tresky’s flip-chip documentation separately lists ±5 µm or better accuracy for its flip-chip bonders and describes ±1 µm alignment for the camera module under stated conditions. Where the reported approach may fit
Electronics For You identifies research and development, prototyping, high-mix and low-volume manufacturing, photonics, optoelectronics, and advanced packaging as intended contexts. It highlights changing component geometries and alignment marks that can become obscured during bonding. Tresky’s product pages also position its die-bonder platforms for research, development, and small-scale production.
Custom pickup tooling is another process-specific consideration: Tresky says tool selection depends on chip dimensions and features, and requests X/Y dimensions and thickness, as well as bump information where relevant. Tresky standard and custom tooling information

Questions to ask when evaluating an alignment system
- Visibility: Does the alignment feature remain visible after pickup, or will the workflow need a stored pre-pickup reference?
- Reference handling: Can the system capture, store, and accurately register a reference image against the live target view?
- Alignment and controls: Which axes are supported, and what image overlays and presentation controls are available?
- Process-specific performance: What placement accuracy and repeatability are documented for the exact platform, tooling, materials, and process?
- Optics and setup: What cameras and lighting are used, and what calibration or alignment steps are needed?
- Operational evidence and cost: Are there comparable measurements for setup time, throughput, yield, reliability, and total equipment and integration cost?
The available report and vendor pages do not provide a like-for-like evaluation on those measures. Treat them as questions for a supplier or process engineer, rather than assuming the software approach has already demonstrated an advantage on every one.
