What cross-platform mod support means
CD PROJEKT RED announced Remastered for September 29, 2026, on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store and Battle.net), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement describes Cross Platform Mod Support as an in-game mod.io feature available from the main menu’s Mods option. The publisher’s cross-platform FAQ specifically names PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for mod availability. The current mod.io game hub lists Windows, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. These platform listings describe the service’s reach, not a promise that each individual mod is offered, approved or compatible on all of them. Availability and compatibility can vary by mod and may change with game updates.

How to install a mod through the in-game menu
- Launch the game and select Mods from the main menu.
- Sign in with your CD PROJEKT RED account and connect it to mod.io. If you already have a mod.io account, confirm that you are signed into the one you intend to use.
- Browse the catalog and select Subscribe on a mod you want.
- Wait for its download to finish.
- Restart the game, open the Installed section and check that the mod is enabled.
The publisher’s user guide covers the in-game flow. For account-linking help, mod.io’s Witcher 3 support page advises checking that you are using the intended mod.io account before connecting your CD PROJEKT RED account.

What players can and cannot do on each platform
PC
PC players can use the in-game mod.io menu, and the publisher’s guide also describes manual Nexus Mods installation and Steam Workshop subscriptions for Steam players. These are distinct routes; a mod on Nexus or Workshop does not automatically appear in the mod.io catalog or work through the in-game menu. Follow the individual mod’s installation and compatibility instructions.
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2
Console players access approved mods through mod.io; they cannot create mods on the console. The publisher’s FAQ names PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for cross-platform mod availability, while the Remastered release and mod.io hub also include Switch 2. Check the specific mod’s listing for platform availability rather than assuming the same selection is present everywhere.
Why some PC mods do not reach consoles
Cross-platform availability is selective. The publisher says content rules and selection criteria mean that not every PC upload can be offered on console. Submissions must also follow CD PROJEKT RED’s Fan Content Guidelines and User Agreement. Community mods are not reviewed by CD PROJEKT RED, so read the listing’s instructions and compatibility notes before installing.

Scripts are an important technical distinction: according to the publisher’s cross-platform mod FAQ, console mods that use scripts must be created with REDkit. Other mod types, including textures and bundles, do not have to be made with REDkit. The publisher says REDkit-created mods have the best chance of console approval, but does not guarantee approval.

The publisher’s mod guide describes these as separate ways to use mods. The publisher also says existing modding services remain usable, while mod.io is required to access mods on consoles. Check each mod’s own requirements; availability through one service does not establish availability through another.
Making mods for console players
REDkit is a tool for creating mods, not a requirement for players simply to use community content. The publisher says a copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is needed to play user-created content. For authors seeking console distribution, the relevant considerations are whether the mod uses scripts, whether it was made with REDkit when scripts are involved, and whether it meets the publisher’s submission rules. REDkit improves the stated chance of console approval, but does not ensure that a mod will be approved or released on every platform.
