How Can You Check Whether Browser Developer Tools Send Your Data?

ToolsSonic says its browser utilities process inputs locally and offers a request counter and Network-panel check. Here is what those checks show—and what they do not.

ToolsSonic’s central privacy argument is that its browser-based utilities process inputs on your device, not on an application server—and that users can watch the browser’s network activity to check for requests after entering data. That makes the claim more observable than a promise alone, but it is not an independent audit: the implementation claims come from the author, and the current homepage also discloses page-load requests, localStorage, and limits on offline use.

What does “your data never leaves the page” mean here?

ToolsSonic describes itself as a suite of 104 browser-based utilities, spanning JSON, JWT, hashing, regex, Markdown, CSV, HTML, and text. Its current homepage groups tools into developer, AI, and text workspaces. The author says the site is delivered as static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files, with no application backend processing the content users submit.

According to the author, the tools do not send user content through fetch, XMLHttpRequest, navigator.sendBeacon, WebSockets, or form submissions. This is an architectural claim by the author, not a result established by an independent code audit or security review. The homepage likewise says processing happens on the visitor’s CPU, while acknowledging that the browser must fetch static files when pages and tools load.

How can a user check for requests after typing?

There are two related ways to observe network activity: a counter displayed by the site and the browser’s own developer tools. Neither proves every privacy or security property, but both let a user look for requests associated with using a tool.

Watch the page’s request counter

The article says a live counter reads resource entries from the browser Performance API. It takes a snapshot when the user first types, then watches for later changes. The counter is intended to show whether additional resource requests appear after input, rather than counting the static assets fetched during initial page loading as if they were input uploads.

Inspect the Network panel yourself

  1. Open the ToolsSonic page for the utility you want to use.

  2. Open your browser’s developer tools and select the Network tab. The homepage recommends clearing the panel first.

  3. Enter or paste test content into the tool, then watch for new network requests as you use it.

Suudipta Mukherjjee, identified in the article as a senior software engineer and architect, summarizes the suggested check this way: “Open any tool, open the Network tab, paste something, and watch nothing happen.” That is the author’s description of a verification procedure, not an independent finding. Read the article.

A quiet Network panel after typing can support the narrower observation that no new request was visible in that test. It cannot by itself establish that every tool, browser state, or future version behaves the same way, nor does it substitute for inspecting the code or conducting a security review.

What engineering examples does the author give?

The article uses JSON handling and JWT verification to illustrate how browser-side implementation choices can matter. The details below are the author’s claims; the code and tests were not independently reproduced.

JSON: preserve the input’s numeric text and duplicate keys

The author warns that a simple JSON.parse/JSON.stringify round trip can alter large numeric values, turn an overflowing numeric value into null, or discard a duplicate key. The article says ToolsSonic’s JSON utilities tokenize input into an abstract syntax tree while retaining original scalar lexemes, then re-emit the content; duplicate keys are retained and counted for a warning. The author describes this implementation as 109 lines, dependency-free, and MIT-licensed as json-safe.

  • Effortless installation with advanced silicone adhesive ensures bubble-free application and zero residue removal.

JWTs: decoding is not signature verification

Reading the contents of a JWT is different from confirming that its signature is valid. The author says the tool performs verification locally with the browser’s crypto.subtle API, supporting HS256, HS384, HS512, RS256, RS384, RS512, ES256, ES384, and ES512. Unsupported algorithms are reported as unsupported rather than being treated as a pass or fail. The article describes the module as 81 lines and MIT-licensed as crypto-kit, and says it was tested against tokens signed with node:crypto; those tests were not reproduced independently.

HTML previews and pasted images

The article says the HTML preview runs in a sandboxed iframe, with allowing scripts presented as an opt-in. It also says pasted or dropped images are embedded as data URLs using FileReader, with a size guard for those embedded images.

What still uses the network, storage, or an internet connection?

“Local processing” does not mean “no network traffic.” The homepage says static assets are fetched when pages or tools load, and that ordinary page-load logs may exist. The distinction is whether user inputs are sent as part of using a tool, not whether opening a website requires any network activity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is also a difference between the article’s description of storage and the current homepage’s disclosure. The article says session history stays in memory and that tools do not write user content to localStorage. The homepage says browser localStorage may retain remembered data under ts-* keys, which users can inspect, export, or delete. The available descriptions do not establish whether they concern different versions, different kinds of data, or a changed implementation, so the discrepancy cannot be resolved from these claims alone.

The homepage says offline use is “mostly” available after a tool has loaded. A tool not previously visited still needs its initial file fetch, so offline availability is not a guarantee that every utility will work before it has been loaded.

How should you evaluate a browser-based utility?

ToolsSonic’s homepage makes a vendor-authored case for local processing. For any browser utility handling sensitive or important input, assess the observable behavior and the practical edge cases that matter to your work:

The current homepage says the tools are free and have no paid unlock. The article mentions a self-hosted team version only as a possible future revenue path, not as an available offering.

What the evidence does—and does not—establish

The article and the current homepage describe a concrete way to make a privacy claim more inspectable: observe the browser’s requests while using a tool, and compare that with the site’s explanation of how processing works. The reported counter and manual Network-panel check are useful transparency mechanisms, but the claims about implementation remain attributable to the author and product. They do not amount to an independent audit, and the homepage’s storage disclosure should be read alongside the article’s different account of session history and localStorage.
