FamilyTime Review: What Its Parental Controls Offer—and What to Verify

FamilyTime is a parental-control service built around a parent Dashboard app and a child-facing FamilyTime Jr app. It advertises screen-time controls, app and website restrictions, activity reports, and location tools, but those capabilities should not be assumed to work the same way on iPhone and Android. The available pricing is a dated snapshot, not a current checkout quote, and the vendor’s privacy and encryption claims need checking against its current policy and device permissions.

How FamilyTime works

FamilyTime describes a two-app setup: a parent installs the FamilyTime Dashboard app, the child installs FamilyTime Jr, and the devices are connected by scanning a QR code. The vendor advertises support for Android and iOS; its Apple listing specifically names iPhone and iPad. See FamilyTime’s product and setup information, Apple App Store listing, and Google Play listing.

FamilyTime also announced a redesign of its parent app on July 17, 2026, describing changes to navigation and access to location, screen schedules, activity, and internet filters. That is the company’s description, not an independent usability assessment. Read the announcement.

What controls and monitoring does FamilyTime advertise?

FamilyTime’s feature pages describe the following capabilities. They are vendor claims; the available information does not establish that every feature is available or behaves identically on each operating system.

#1 Best Overall
Bark Phone for Kids & Teens - GPS Tracking & Parental Controls - A16
  • ACTIVATION REQUIRED: After purchase, users will select a monthly data plan. Starter plan: $29/mo. Wi-Fi only: $39/mo. 4GB: $49/mo. 8GB: $59/mo. UNLIMITED GB: $79/mo.
  • STATE-OF-THE-ART MONITORING: Get alerts for potential issues in your child’s texts, emails and 30+ social media platforms and apps. Scan for online predators, sexting, suicidal ideation, bullying, violence, drugs/alcohol, and more.
  • APPROVE APPS AND CONTACTS: Manage the apps your child can install as well as who they can text and call.
  • TAMPER-PROOF PARENTAL CONTROLS: The rules you set stay in place. Plus, texts can't be deleted without your permission.
  • REAL-TIME GPS LOCATION TRACKING: We make location sharing simple with three different ways to keep track of your child — a real-time map, customizable location alerts, and check-ins.
  • Screen time: daily limits and schedules.
  • Apps and websites: app and game blocking, website filtering, and SafeSearch.
  • Activity: reports and a stated 30-day activity history.
  • Location: location tracking, geofencing, SOS alerts, and pickup requests.
  • Communications and social activity: advertised visibility into calls, SMS, contacts, and selected social platforms.

Before relying on a particular control, check its availability for the child’s operating system and the permissions it requires. App limits, filtering, social activity, call and text reporting, and geofence alerts are especially important to verify on the actual devices in your household.

Does FamilyTime work on iPhone and Android?

The vendor advertises iOS and Android support, and its Apple listing identifies iPhone and iPad. That establishes advertised platform support, not feature parity or enforcement quality. The available information does not settle which controls work on each platform or whether restrictions behave consistently across them.

  • BUILT-IN PARENTAL CONTROLS: Parents can remotely manage and monitor their kids cell phone with the Thrive Parent app that works on iOS and Android. Thrive experience offers regular software updates that provide new features and functionality.
  • PARENT-APPROVED APPS and TIME LIMITS: All the fun and educational apps. Each app requires parental approval and has time restrictions. Tamper-proof controls ensure kids cannot bypass them.
  • SAFE CALLING, SEARCH, BROWSING: Smart phones for kids with built-in safe online search and browsing. Protect your kids from cyberbullies, and inappropriate content. All unknown and spam calls are blocked.
  • MONTHLY PLAN REQUIRED: Thrive comes bundled with Teracube Wireless service. Teracube Wireless offers affordable monthly plans for all your talk, text, and data needs. Activation is REQUIRED (Not compatible with other service providers).
  • TERACUBE CARE+: Thrive comes with Teracube Care+ protection, which provides express phone replacements for defects and accidents. A protective case and glass screen protector are included with the phone.

Check the current Apple and Google app listings and compare the specific features you need before subscribing. A useful household check is to confirm each child device’s operating system, then verify the desired controls—such as app limits, web filtering, call or text reports, and location alerts—on that platform rather than assuming that an advertised feature applies everywhere.

Privacy and child data: what to check

FamilyTime says it is GDPR-compliant and uses end-to-end encryption. Those are vendor claims; the available information does not independently verify them or establish data retention, deletion practices, security-audit results, or exactly what each feature collects.

Before setup, read the current FamilyTime privacy information and review the permissions requested by both apps on each child device. Pay particular attention to what data is collected for location, communications, social activity, and reporting, how long it is retained, and how it can be deleted. Do not infer the collection or protection of particular data from a feature label alone.

Is FamilyTime worth considering?

FamilyTime may suit a household looking for one service that advertises screen controls, filtering, activity reporting, and location tools. The decision depends on whether its specific features work on the family’s devices, whether the trial includes the controls the parent needs, and whether the privacy terms meet the household’s expectations.

Because the available information does not independently test installation, enforcement, reporting, or reliability, it cannot establish how well the service performs in everyday use. Treat the feature list as a starting point: verify the relevant controls on each platform and check the live subscription and privacy terms before committing.
