They do not choose the framework. Survey data from 2025 shows how common these tools have become, but it cannot show that AI caused any particular framework decision. Whether React stays in a project depends mostly on deployment fit, existing code, and the requirements the project actually has, and AI assistance matters only at the margins of that decision.
What the 2025 survey data establishes
Three published figures are useful here, and each one measures something different.

- 85% of developers regularly use AI tools for coding and development, and 62% rely on at least one AI coding assistant, agent, or code editor. Source: JetBrains Research, The State of the Developer Ecosystem 2025, blog.jetbrains.com/research/2025/10/state-of-developer-ecosystem-2025/. These figures describe adoption across a survey population. They say nothing about which framework any individual chose.
- Respondents to the State of JavaScript 2025 had used an average of 2.6 different front-end frameworks over their careers. Source: State of JavaScript 2025, 2025.stateofjs.com/en-US/libraries/front-end-frameworks/. This is a career-long measure among front-end developers.
- The State of React 2025 reports an average of 2.9 selected items in its back-end and infrastructure category. Source: State of React 2025, 2025.stateofreact.com/en-US/libraries/back-end-infrastructure/. This is a count of tools selected within one category, drawn from a React-focused population. It is not a ranking of frameworks, and it should not be set beside the 2.6 figure as if the two measured the same thing.
The same survey work also discusses Next.js, TanStack Start, and React Router framework mode as current options within the React ecosystem. Taken together, the data shows an active, plural ecosystem. It does not show which option wins for a given project.
Where AI assistance plausibly changes the calculation
The most defensible effect of AI tools on framework choice is on the cost of working inside a framework’s conventions. A framework with stable file structures, well-documented APIs, and widely repeated patterns gives an assistant more reliable material to draw on. A framework whose conventions have shifted recently, or whose documentation is thin, gives it less. That gap affects how much friction a team feels in daily work.
#1 Best Overall
This is a judgment about how these tools tend to behave, not a measured result. No survey in the sources above tests whether AI assistance changes framework selection, so treat the effect as a hypothesis to check against your own codebase. The useful test is simple: take a representative task in each candidate framework, have your assistant produce the first draft, and count how many corrections a reviewer must make. Record the results in the same way for each option.
Deployment fit is a separate axis
Where a framework runs can matter as much as how it is written. Vercel’s documentation, Supported Frameworks on Vercel, lists support for Next.js, Astro, React Router, and other frameworks. The page describes its list as representative rather than exhaustive, and its search listing shows a last update of July 31, 2025. Check the live page before relying on it, because support can change.
A platform listing answers only one question: whether a framework is supported there. It does not establish that the framework is the right choice for your project’s build, data, or hosting requirements.

A checklist for choosing between React and the alternatives
Use these questions in order. Each one narrows the decision before the next.
Rank #3
- Is there existing React code that would be expensive to rewrite? If the answer is yes, the cost of migration is usually the dominant factor, regardless of any change in tooling.
- Does the deployment target support the framework? Check the platform’s own documentation for the exact framework and version you plan to use.
- Do the project’s rendering, routing, and data requirements match what the framework provides? List them explicitly before comparing options.
- Do your team’s developers know the framework’s conventions well? Prior fluency reduces the gap that AI assistance would otherwise need to close.
- Has the assistant produced reliable first drafts in this framework for your typical tasks? Run the test described above rather than assuming the answer.
When React survives the comparison
React tends to remain the practical choice when several of the checklist answers point the same way: the codebase already exists in React, the deployment platform supports the framework the team wants to use, and the team’s conventions are already settled. In those conditions, switching frameworks adds migration risk without a corresponding gain in what the project needs.
The survey figures above do not establish any of these conditions on their own. Each depends on the specific project, so a general article cannot name the cases where React holds up. The checklist is meant to let you identify them in your own work.

What this article does not establish
No verified direct quotation from a named expert or official source supports the claims about AI and framework conventions, so none is presented here. The article makes no claim about performance, cost, maintainability, or productivity rankings between frameworks, because the sources cited do not measure those things. Any such comparison would need project-level evidence collected under the same conditions for each option.

Bottom line
AI assistance is a factor in framework choice, but a secondary one. Deployment support, existing code, and project requirements set the boundaries, and AI tools mainly affect how smoothly a team works within the option it has already chosen. Measure that effect on your own tasks before counting it as a reason to switch.
