Using one lens can make iPhone photography feel more deliberate, but the exercise means something different on a phone than it does on a camera with interchangeable lenses. You can commit to one built-in Main camera view for a shoot, or attach a separate optical lens for a more specialized effect. The first constrains your framing; the second changes the optics and adds mounting hardware.
What does “one lens” mean on an iPhone?
On a pro camera, a single-lens exercise usually means choosing one physical lens and working within its field of view. On an iPhone, you need to decide whether you mean sticking to one of the phone’s built-in camera views or using an external lens accessory. They are not interchangeable approaches.

Choose one built-in Main camera view
Apple’s support guide says supported iPhones can use 24 mm as the Main camera’s default view and add 28 mm and 35 mm options. The iPhone Air instead has a 26 mm default, with 28 mm and 35 mm options. These are software-selectable views from the Main camera, not separate interchangeable lenses. The constraint is about making pictures from a consistent perspective: move closer or farther away, change your position, or decide that a subject does not fit the frame. That can encourage more intentional composition without requiring extra gear.

Attach an external optical lens
An add-on lens is a physical accessory mounted over the phone camera. It is a different choice from selecting a built-in view, and it requires compatible mounting hardware. As one example, Moment describes its Macro 75mm II as a close-up lens for details such as flowers, food, textures, and insects. Those are the manufacturer’s intended uses, not independent test findings. Its product page specifies T-Series mounting and provides compatibility guidance.
Which approach suits the photographs you want?

If your aim is simply to make a walk more creative, start with one built-in view: it imposes a useful limit without adding equipment. Consider an external optic when you can name the distinct effect you want and are prepared to use its mounting kit. Neither option is automatically a technical upgrade; the right choice depends on the pictures you want to make and how you prefer to work.

What to check before buying an external lens
Confirm the phone and mount combination
Do not assume an external lens attaches directly to every iPhone. Moment’s Macro 75mm II page specifies a T-Series mount and includes compatibility guidance, but its wording is not fully uniform: a chart identifies iPhone 14–17 models with a case and drop-in mount, while another feature statement says iPhone 13 and newer. Check the latest compatibility chart for your precise phone and mounting setup before buying.

A lens attachment means carrying and fitting the lens and its compatible mount, rather than using the phone alone. Moment also advises using its Pro Camera app to lock the phone to the Main camera when using a mobile lens, because the native camera app may switch lenses. Treat that as the maker’s guidance and verify current app behavior for your setup; do not assume the phone will always select the camera you intend.

Make the constraint useful
- Pick a built-in Main camera view or a specific external optic before you begin; decide which meaning of “one lens” you are using.
- Choose a subject range that makes sense for that view. A consistent built-in perspective can suit a general photo walk; a macro attachment is intended for close detail.
- When using a built-in view, change your position and framing rather than reaching for another camera view.
- When using an attachment, check compatibility and mounting hardware, then confirm that the camera app is using the intended camera.
- Review the images afterward for what the constraint made you notice—and what it prevented you from capturing.
The point is not to prove that one lens is better. It is to give yourself a clear boundary: one familiar perspective for disciplined framing, or one specialized attachment for a particular kind of image.
