A small-business website preview can be a working homepage built from verified public information—not just a static mockup. Weio describes a workflow that starts with a compact business spec, checks the page at a phone-sized viewport, and keeps the existing website untouched until the business approves a rebuild. It is a vendor-authored process, not independent evidence that previews improve conversions or sales.
What the phone-first preview is—and is not
In Weio’s account, the preview is a functioning homepage assembled before the business commits to a full rebuild. The point is to make the proposed direction concrete enough to review: a prospect can flag that “the hours are wrong,” ask to “use the other photo,” or ask, “can you add a booking link.” These are the author’s examples, not results from a systematic survey.

The preview is not the finished site. Weio says it carries a banner naming who built it, stating that it is not live, and explaining that the business’s existing site remains untouched until approval. The source also says preview pages are set to noindex/nofollow. For a commissioned build, the banner is removed at launch; inner pages and a contact form are added later.

Start with checked facts, not invented content
The workflow begins with a JSON brief described as a “10-field spec,” containing the business slug, name, tagline, category, phone, email, address, city, hours, services, and about text. There is a small ambiguity in the source: its displayed example appears to include more than ten named properties if both slug and city are counted separately. The practical lesson is to treat the brief as a defined set of inputs, not rely on the field count alone.

- HTML CSS Design and Build Web Sites
- Comes with secure packaging
- It can be a gift option
Weio says the information is taken from the business’s existing website or public listing and checked before the page is built. Existing photos may be reused, but the author says not to invent stock photos, testimonials, or awards. A polished preview with fabricated details defeats its purpose: it gives the business a false picture of what can be published and risks putting misleading claims in front of customers.
Before generating the page, verify names, contact information, address, hours, service descriptions, and image rights or provenance. If a detail cannot be confirmed, omit it or mark it for the business to supply rather than turning an assumption into published-looking content.
Generate only actions the source facts support
Weio describes conditional rules that suppress unsupported calls to action instead of filling gaps with guesses. These are the author’s implementation choices, not universal web standards.
Rank #2
- A phone number with fewer than ten digits suppresses the call button.
- A missing address or a P.O. box suppresses directions.
- No email address means no email button.
- No hours means the hours card is omitted.
This makes an incomplete but honest preview more useful than one with a button that leads nowhere or directions that could mislead a visitor. The same principle applies to other interactions: a booking link should appear only if the business has provided a real destination and agreed that it belongs in the design.
Build for a phone first, then check the wider layout
The described design uses a single-column layout on a phone and a wider two-column card row on desktop. Weio says it renders the page in headless Chromium at a 375-pixel viewport and measures document width to catch horizontal overflow. That is the author’s stated procedure, not an independently tested standard or guarantee that every device will render identically.
The author recounts that a long email address once caused overflow, leading to min-width: 0 and overflow-wrap: anywhere on cards. It is a useful implementation anecdote: real business data can break a layout even when placeholder content looks fine. A narrow-screen check should use the actual phone number, email, service names, and other long strings likely to appear in the preview.

Weio also says its implementation avoids stretching small hero images across desktop layouts and cache-busts changed image URLs. These are details of this workflow, not a claim that every site generator handles images or caching the same way.
Keep the preview separate from the live site
A preview should be unmistakably a preview. The banner described by Weio identifies the builder, says the page is not live, and reassures the business that the existing website stays in place until approval. The source says the pages are noindex/nofollow; that setting is part of the described process, rather than a substitute for clearly labeling the page or managing access appropriately.
Only after the business approves the direction does the described commissioned workflow expand the project: inner pages and a contact form are added, the preview banner is removed at launch, and the site is connected through two DNS records. Weio says it measures Lighthouse before handover and sets a mobile score of 90 or better as a target. That is the company’s target—not a guaranteed score, independent measurement, or proof of business performance.

Weio’s article advertises a full rebuild of up to six pages, including a contact form, HTTPS, and 12 months of hosting, for a fixed $499. It also describes a preview timeline, two revision rounds, and a refund promise. These are the company’s advertised terms in that article, not independently verified terms; offers can change, so confirm the current scope and conditions directly before agreeing.

The final quote depends on what the business needs beyond that page: content, functionality, additional pages, support after launch, hosting and domain arrangements, and ownership or export requirements. Bord Bia’s May 2022 planning guide recommends covering target audience, site objective, domain and hosting, content, imagery, functionality, post-build support, and a plan for driving traffic in the project brief. Its guidance is useful as a scope checklist, not as current pricing advice.
Rank #4
The same guide presents off-the-shelf builders as generally faster and more cost-effective, with possible limits on individuality and integrations; it characterizes custom builds as more tailored but more time- and labor-intensive. That is a broad framework, not current platform-specific advice.
Bord Bia’s 2022 guide gave historical estimates of €1,500–€3,000 for a micro-business brochure site without e-commerce, €4,500–€8,000 for a small-business brochure site with some limited e-commerce, and said some DIY website packages started at €15 per month. It also described a typical 10–12-week project when research is complete and content preparation has begun. These are dated guide figures under stated assumptions, not universal or current quotes.
Compare the actual preview and the boundaries of the offer
ShowFirst Digital, a UK provider, also describes building a working homepage preview before payment and agreeing scope and price before paid work. Its page lists guide launch prices of £495 and £895 for two packages, with domain, hosting, third-party software, photography, and ad spend separate unless quoted. It says the free preview is a first working direction, not unlimited free rounds. These are the provider’s own descriptions, not independent evidence of customer outcomes.
When comparing preview-first workflows or services, ask what the preview actually is, how facts are checked, what mobile and accessibility checks are performed, what the preview disclosure says, and whether your existing site stays intact. Then pin down included pages and forms, revision and refund limits, ownership and export rights, domain and hosting costs, delivery timing, and the evidence behind any performance claims. One provider’s offer does not establish how the wider market performs.
