Hostwinds Review: Plans, Prices and Refund Rules for 2026

Hostwinds offers shared, reseller, and VPS hosting, but published entry prices conflict and renewal costs are unclear for most plans. Here’s what to verify before buying.

Hostwinds’ published entry-level hosting price is disputed: its 2026 review lists shared hosting from $3.29 per month, while a price tracker checking Hostwinds pages on September 24, 2026, lists web hosting from $6.99 per month. Neither source verifies the $4.54 figure in the original headline, and neither establishes what you will pay at checkout. Hostwinds may suit a straightforward website, a reseller managing client accounts, or a user who wants VPS control—but check the exact plan, billing term, renewal price, and refund eligibility before buying.

How much does Hostwinds cost?

Published prices differ for entry-level hosting, so treat them as starting points rather than a confirmed checkout total. Hostwinds’ own review, published in 2026, says shared hosting starts at $3.29 per month and describes that as a standard rather than introductory rate. CloudsPress, which says it checked Hostwinds’ pages on September 24, 2026, lists web hosting from $6.99 per month. The reviewed sources do not explain the discrepancy; the plan, billing term, currency, and checkout total need to be checked directly.

Service or tier Published price Source and qualification
Shared hosting From $3.29/month Hostwinds’ 2026 review; vendor-published price, not an independently verified checkout total.
Web hosting From $6.99/month CloudsPress listing based on Hostwinds pages checked September 24, 2026; conflicts with the Hostwinds review’s shared-hosting figure.
Business hosting From $5.99/month Hostwinds’ 2026 review; vendor-published price.
Managed Linux VPS From $7.14/month Hostwinds’ 2026 review; vendor-published price.
Linux VPS renewal $10.99/month CloudsPress lists this for Linux VPS; it says only one of seven plans it reviewed displayed a renewal price.
Windows VPS From $12.74/month Hostwinds’ 2026 review; vendor-published price.
Reseller Basic $6.99/month Hostwinds’ reseller page.
Reseller Advanced $8.99/month Hostwinds’ reseller page.
Reseller Ultimate $10.99/month Hostwinds’ reseller page.

These are published monthly prices, not a complete comparison of total cost. Hostwinds reserves the right to change prices and says it will give at least 30 days’ notice before billing at a changed price. Because renewal prices are not published for most of the plans tracked by CloudsPress, confirm the billing cadence, term total, and renewal amount at checkout rather than extrapolating from a monthly starting price. CloudsPress’ Hostwinds listing identifies its price-check date and notes the limited renewal-price information; Hostwinds’ 2026 review contains its own plan figures.

Which Hostwinds plan fits your needs?

Shared hosting for a simpler site

Shared hosting is the most natural starting point for a basic website when you do not need to manage a virtual server. Hostwinds describes its shared plans as including SSD storage, unlimited bandwidth, free SSL, cPanel, free website migration, and 24/7 support. These are the provider’s descriptions, not independently tested results. Its review says a free domain is not included and describes the website builder as basic.

Business hosting for a hosting upgrade

Hostwinds lists business hosting from $5.99 per month in its 2026 review. The reviewed material does not establish a detailed, independent comparison of its resources or performance against shared hosting. Check the plan page for the specific CPU, memory, storage, site limits, and management terms before choosing it over a shared plan.

VPS when you want more control

Hostwinds lists managed Linux VPS from $7.14 per month and Windows VPS from $12.74 per month. A VPS is a better candidate when you need more control or dedicated virtual resources than a simple shared plan offers, but the reviewed sources do not provide an independent performance comparison or a complete resource-by-resource plan table. Verify CPU, RAM, storage, bandwidth, operating system, and what “managed” covers for the exact VPS tier. Hostwinds says its VPS and dedicated offerings use SSD storage and 1 Gbps network ports, and identifies Seattle and Dallas data-center locations; those are vendor descriptions.

Reseller hosting for managing client accounts

Reseller plans are aimed at agencies, designers, or other operators who want to host multiple client sites under one account. Hostwinds lists three tiers with different domain allowances:

Reseller tier Published price Domain allowance
Basic $6.99/month 1 domain
Advanced $8.99/month 4 domains
Ultimate $10.99/month Unlimited domains

The Hostwinds reseller page also advertises unlimited bandwidth and disk space, SSD storage, SSL certificates, cPanel, Softaculous, FTP accounts, databases, email accounts, subdomains, and 24/7 support. It describes nightly backups, monitoring, management assistance, and migrations. Confirm the current details and any usage limits with the provider: “unlimited” does not, by itself, establish that usage is unrestricted. The provider’s reseller plan page lists the tiers and included features.

What performance and support claims are established?

Hostwinds’ review advertises a 99.9999% uptime SLA and says its data centers use 2N redundancy. It also gives itself scores for reliability, support, and overall service. These are vendor statements and self-assessments—not independent uptime measurements, a third-party benchmark, or results from a hands-on support test. The reviewed evidence does not establish an independently measured uptime record.

The vendor review describes 24/7/365 live chat, ticket, and phone support. It reports that user accounts typically put live-chat response times under two minutes, but that is an attributed report, not a response-time test performed for this article. Consider the availability of those channels useful to verify, not proof of support quality for your particular issue.

How do cancellation and refunds work?

Hostwinds’ terms say that an eligible service must be canceled through the client portal and that the refund request must be made within 72 hours of the payment transaction. The terms state that requests made before cancellation or outside that window are invalid. This is a narrow request period, not a general 30-day money-back guarantee.

The terms list exclusions including software licenses, domains, SSL certificates, IP addresses, hourly billed services, certain terminations, and purchases made with cryptocurrency or digital assets. Payment type and eligibility can also affect whether an approved refund returns to the original payment source or becomes account credit. Read the current Hostwinds Terms of Service before paying, and use the client portal promptly if you decide to cancel.

How should you compare Hostwinds with other providers?

The reviewed sources do not establish an independent performance comparison, so a starting price or vendor uptime claim is not enough to determine value. Compare the actual offer for your intended use:

  • Hosting type and management: distinguish shared, reseller, and VPS services, and check what management is included.
  • Resources and allowances: compare CPU, RAM, storage, bandwidth, sites or domains, and any usage limits—not just the word “unlimited.”
  • Total cost over time: confirm the billing term, amount charged now, renewal price, and any price-change notice terms.
  • Cancellation terms: account for the 72-hour refund-request window and listed exclusions.
  • Location: verify current data-center options against where your audience is located.
  • Support and evidence: check which support channels are available and separate provider claims from independently measured results.

Is Hostwinds worth it?

Hostwinds is worth considering if its hosting type and plan allowances fit your site or client workload, and you are comfortable verifying the price and renewal terms before checkout. Its range spans shared, business, reseller, VPS, cloud, and dedicated hosting, but the reviewed price evidence conflicts on entry-level web hosting and does not establish renewal prices for most plans. Its uptime and support statements are provider claims rather than independent test results. For a sound decision, compare the exact resources and total term cost, then weigh them against the short, exclusion-heavy refund process.
