To control web results and suggestions in Windows 11 Search, run Microsoft’s Set-WindowsSearchSetting PowerShell cmdlet with -EnableWebResultsSetting $False to exclude them or $True to display them. On organization-managed devices, administrators can instead configure the DoNotUseWebResults policy. These controls are separate from Windows’ personalization of Start and search based on app launches.
Turn web results and suggestions on or off with PowerShell
Microsoft documents Set-WindowsSearchSetting as a way to change Windows Search settings, including whether Search displays web results or suggestions. The -EnableWebResultsSetting parameter takes a Boolean value:

$Falseexcludes web results and suggestions.$Truedisplays web results and suggestions.
Open PowerShell and run the command for the setting you want:
Set-WindowsSearchSetting -EnableWebResultsSetting $False
To display web results and suggestions instead, use:

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
Set-WindowsSearchSetting -EnableWebResultsSetting $True
Microsoft’s cmdlet documentation is for Windows Server 2025 PowerShell. It documents the parameter’s behavior, but does not establish a universal Settings toggle or confirm the command’s availability and behavior on every Windows 11 build. Check the documentation and your device’s management context if the cmdlet is unavailable or the setting does not take effect: Set-WindowsSearchSetting (WindowsSearch).
Microsoft also cautions that the metered-network web-results parameter should not be specified when EnableWebResultsSetting is $False.

Use policy for organization-managed devices
Administrators can control web queries and results across managed devices with the DoNotUseWebResults Search policy. When enabled, it prevents Search from making web queries and displaying web results. When disabled, web queries and results are permitted; when the policy is unconfigured, users can choose.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The policy is device-scoped. Microsoft lists it for Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions on Windows 10 version 1803 and later, including Windows 11. Its Group Policy name is Do not search the web or display web results in Search, under Computer Configuration > Windows Components > Search. Administrators should confirm edition and version applicability for their deployment in Microsoft’s Search Policy CSP documentation.

For this policy, Microsoft defines value 0 as not allowed and 1 as allowed/default. The allowed state permits web queries and results; it does not force them to display if the user has chosen otherwise. Avoid treating registry values from older or related policy documentation as interchangeable with this policy without accounting for their management and version context.
Do not confuse web results with search personalization
Windows 11 has a separate personalization control at Settings > Privacy & security > Recommendations & offers: Let Windows improve Start and search results by tracking app launches. Microsoft describes this as using apps you launch to personalize Start and make frequently used apps easier to access in Start and when searching your device. It is not documented as the switch for web results or suggestions. See Microsoft’s Privacy settings for Recommendations & offers in Windows 11.
