Do not choose a winner from this title alone. Official HONOR material identifies the HONOR Pad 8 as a 12-inch 2K tablet, while Samsung has sold more than one 8.4-inch Galaxy Tab in different generations. Until you confirm the exact HONOR model number and the Samsung generation, any comparison of speed, software support, price or value could match the wrong devices.
The safest buying decision is therefore a model-identification exercise first, followed by a comparison of screen, connectivity, software support, condition and local price. The evidence below shows what can be established and what still has to be checked in your region.

The short answer
If a listing calls an HONOR tablet “8.4-inch,” pause before paying. The official HONOR Pad 8 overview describes a 12-inch 2K tablet, not an 8.4-inch model. HONOR’s specification page for that Pad 8 lists a Snapdragon 680 processor, Android S with MagicUI 6.1, 128 GB of storage and a 7,250 mAh typical battery; none of those figures should be assigned to an unidentified 8.4-inch HONOR device.

“Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4” is also ambiguous. Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 in 2014, with a 8.4-inch 2560 × 1600 Super AMOLED display and Android KitKat 4.4 at launch. Samsung later documented a separate Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020), with an 8.4-inch 1920 × 1200 WUXGA TFT display. Those are different products from different eras, and the Galaxy Tab A page identifies the model as a 2020 4G LTE tablet.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Confirm both model names before comparing them. If the HONOR device is actually the Pad 8, it is a large-screen tablet rather than a direct 8.4-inch rival. If the Samsung device is the 2014 Galaxy Tab S 8.4 or the 2020 Galaxy Tab A 8.4, its software-support status, condition and current price require separate verification.
Why the product names do not line up
HONOR’s documented Pad 8 is a 12-inch tablet
HONOR India’s overview calls the HONOR Pad 8 a 12-inch 2K tablet. HONOR Pakistan’s specification page associates that model with a Snapdragon 680, Android S running with MagicUI 6.1, 128 GB of storage and a 7,250 mAh typical battery. These are model-specific facts, not generic specifications for every HONOR tablet.
The official pages reviewed did not establish an HONOR tablet with an 8.4-inch screen. That does not prove that no regional, discontinued or differently named HONOR product ever used that size. It does mean a seller, advertisement or comparison article needs to provide a model number before its specifications can be trusted.

Samsung’s 2014 Galaxy Tab S 8.4 announcement and its later Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) support material refer to separate generations. The shared diagonal does not make them interchangeable: they use different display technologies, resolutions, launch dates and software baselines.

The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 was announced in 2014 and listed selected-market availability beginning in July 2014. Samsung specified a 2560 × 1600 Super AMOLED panel and Android KitKat 4.4 at announcement. The Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) is a later 4G LTE model with an 8.4-inch 1920 × 1200 WUXGA TFT display. Samsung’s product page does not establish its present availability or value.
What the official specifications actually show
| Device reference | Screen | Launch or software information | Other documented details | What is not established |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HONOR Pad 8 | 12 inches, 2K (HONOR India overview) | Android S with MagicUI 6.1 listed on HONOR Pakistan’s specification page | Snapdragon 680; 128 GB; 7,250 mAh typical battery | It is not documented as an 8.4-inch tablet; current price, availability and ongoing support are not stated |
| Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 | 8.4 inches; 2560 × 1600; Super AMOLED (Samsung Global Newsroom) | Announced in 2014; Android KitKat 4.4 at announcement; selected-market availability from July 2014 | Exact regional variants and present condition depend on the unit | Current software support, present retail availability, battery health, price and value are not stated |
| Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) | 8.4 inches; 1920 × 1200 WUXGA TFT (Samsung Business Support) | 2020 model; Samsung US describes it as a 4G LTE tablet | Different generation from Galaxy Tab S 8.4 | Current software support, present availability, battery health, price and value are not stated |
The table is deliberately limited to figures published for the named models. No independent benchmark, battery-runtime test, market-share figure or current price was established, so none should be inferred from processor names, screen resolution or launch dates.
How to identify the exact tablet before comparing it
- Ask for the full model name and model number. A listing that says only “HONOR 8.4-inch tablet” or “Galaxy Tab 8.4” is incomplete. Request the model code printed on the box, rear label or system settings.
- Check the device itself. On the tablet, open Settings and look for About tablet or About device. Record the model name, model number, Android version and storage capacity. Menu wording can vary by software version.
- Match the number to an official regional page. Use the manufacturer’s page for the country where you will use the tablet. Do not rely on a retailer title, a photograph of a similar tablet or a specification copied from another generation.
- Confirm the display size and technology. An 8.4-inch diagonal does not identify a Galaxy Tab generation. The documented Tab S uses a 2560 × 1600 Super AMOLED panel; the Tab A (2020) uses a 1920 × 1200 WUXGA TFT panel.
- Confirm connectivity. The Galaxy Tab A 8.4 product page describes a 2020 4G LTE model. Ask whether the exact unit has cellular hardware, which bands it supports and whether it is carrier-locked. Do not assume every regional variant has the same radio configuration.
- Photograph the software screen and labels. For a used purchase, ask for clear images of the About screen, charging port, display and serial/model label. This reduces the chance of receiving a different generation in a reused box.
How the likely matchups differ
HONOR Pad 8 versus Galaxy Tab S 8.4
This is not a like-for-like size comparison. The Pad 8 is documented as a 12-inch 2K tablet, whereas the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has an 8.4-inch 2560 × 1600 Super AMOLED display and was announced in 2014 with Android KitKat 4.4. One is a large-format HONOR model; the other is a compact Samsung model from an earlier generation.
A buyer choosing between them must first decide whether a large screen or a small body matters more, then verify whether the older Samsung unit still meets current app, security and connectivity needs. The available specifications do not establish a performance winner or a battery-life winner.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.

HONOR Pad 8 versus Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020)
The same size mismatch remains: 12 inches for the documented Pad 8 versus 8.4 inches for the Galaxy Tab A. The Samsung model’s documented display is a 1920 × 1200 WUXGA TFT panel, and Samsung identifies it as a 2020 4G LTE tablet. The Pad 8’s documented hardware includes Snapdragon 680, 128 GB and a 7,250 mAh typical battery, but those figures cannot be used to describe an unknown HONOR 8.4-inch listing.
Because the Samsung is a 2020 model, do not assume that it receives current updates simply from its model year. Check the exact regional support record and the software version installed on the unit. Likewise, verify the Pad 8’s local support and availability rather than importing assumptions from another market.
Choose by requirement, not by the shared “8.4-inch” wording
If portability is the priority
An 8.4-inch tablet is physically smaller than a 12-inch tablet, but the model still matters for weight, thickness, cellular hardware and case availability. Obtain those measurements for the exact variant; they are not established in the cited specifications. A compact screen may suit reading and travel, while a 12-inch panel may be more comfortable for split-screen work, but your choice should follow the size you actually want rather than the headline.
If display quality is the priority
Use the documented panel type and resolution as a starting point, not a complete verdict. The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is specified with Super AMOLED at 2560 × 1600; the Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) is specified with TFT at 1920 × 1200. The Pad 8 overview states 12-inch 2K but does not, in the supplied evidence, establish a comparable panel technology. Inspect brightness, viewing angles and screen condition on the actual unit, especially when buying used.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
If cellular connectivity is required
Verify the exact modem and supported bands. Samsung’s product page describes the Galaxy Tab A 8.4 as 4G LTE, but a listing may represent a different regional variant. Wi-Fi-only and LTE versions can have different model numbers, prices and update histories. No equivalent cellular specification is established here for the HONOR Pad 8.
If long-term software support is important
The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 launched with Android KitKat 4.4 in 2014; that is a launch-era fact, not a statement about the latest software it can run. The Galaxy Tab A is identified as a 2020 model, and the Pad 8 specification page lists Android S with MagicUI 6.1. Before purchase, check the manufacturer’s current security-update information for the exact model and region, then test the apps you depend on.
If storage and offline use matter
The HONOR Pakistan specification page lists 128 GB for the Pad 8. Storage for the two Samsung models is not stated in the supplied official references, so obtain it from the exact unit and determine whether expansion is supported. Check available free space rather than relying only on the advertised capacity.

The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is a 2014 product, and the Galaxy Tab A 8.4 is a 2020 product. A second-hand unit can differ substantially from a new one because of battery wear, screen damage, missing accessories, account locks or regional restrictions. Treat age and condition as separate from the original specification.

Questions to ask a seller or retailer
- What is the exact manufacturer model number?
- Is this the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 or Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020), and which regional variant is it?
- For the HONOR device, is it the HONOR Pad 8, or another model with a different official name?
- What Android version and security-update date are shown under About tablet?
- Is the tablet Wi-Fi-only or cellular, and is the cellular unit unlocked?
- What storage capacity is installed, and how much free space remains?
- Has the battery, screen or charging port been repaired?
- What are the return terms if the model number or network compatibility does not match the listing?
When a comparison should be postponed
Do not make a purchase decision when the seller cannot provide a model number, when the screen size conflicts with the official product name, or when a Samsung listing omits the generation. Also postpone the decision if current software support, local availability or price cannot be verified. Those omissions prevent a responsible value comparison.
The correct next step for the “HONOR 8.4-inch” side is to obtain the exact HONOR model number and consult its official regional product page. Once that identity is established, compare it against the specifically named Galaxy Tab S 8.4 or Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020), not against an undifferentiated “Samsung Galaxy Tab.”
A practical buying decision
Buy the HONOR option only if the seller proves which HONOR model it is and that its size, software support, storage, battery and local warranty fit your needs. Buy a Samsung 8.4-inch model only after confirming the generation, variant, condition and current app support. If you cannot obtain those details, the rational choice is to keep looking rather than treating an ambiguous listing as a bargain.
