Its BlueCatch system can record both sides of a computer call through paired Bluetooth earphones, while Room and Whisper modes cover in-person meetings and quick dictation. Notebookcheck found the hardware dependable, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams capture effective, and speaker-separated summaries useful. The important compromise is software control: direct access to recordings is restricted, Whisper captures cannot be exported in bulk as MP3 files, and scrubbing audio on the device is awkward.
That makes the P1 a strong fit if searchable notes and automatic summaries matter more than an open archive of audio files. It is a less convincing choice for journalists, researchers or anyone who needs unrestricted, batch-exportable recordings.

What the HiDock P1 is designed to do
The HiDock P1 is a portable, transcription-first voice recorder. Instead of treating audio files as the main product, it sends recordings into the HiNotes software ecosystem for transcription, speaker separation and summaries. HiDock markets it for calls, meetings, interviews and personal ideas.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →There are three capture modes:
- Call Mode uses BlueCatch to capture both sides of a computer call through paired Bluetooth earphones.
- Room Mode records surrounding sound through the P1’s built-in microphones.
- Whisper Mode is push-to-talk dictation for short notes and ideas.
This distinction matters. The P1 is not simply a small microphone that saves every recording as an easily browsable file. Its most valuable functions—transcription, summaries and speaker identification—are tied to HiNotes, and that tie-in also creates the product’s main limitations.

At 72 grams, the P1 is light enough to carry in a pocket or attach to a bag, and the magnetic back gives it more placement flexibility than a conventional flat recorder. The aluminum body should also be better suited to frequent travel than a fragile plastic dictation device, although the supplied evidence does not establish a drop or water-resistance rating.
How each recording mode works
Call Mode and BlueCatch
Call Mode is the feature that separates the P1 from a conventional room recorder. BlueCatch receives the call audio through paired Bluetooth earphones and records the incoming sound from the earphone speaker while also capturing your voice through the earphone microphone. In a supported computer-call setup, the resulting recording contains both sides of the conversation.
Notebookcheck successfully used BlueCatch with Google Meet and Microsoft Teams without placing a meeting-side bot in the call. That is useful for workplaces where adding an automated participant is restricted or undesirable. The evidence supports computer calls routed through compatible Bluetooth earphones; it does not establish that the P1 independently records ordinary cellular calls or every Bluetooth device combination.
Room Mode
Room Mode relies on the P1’s dual built-in ECM microphones. It is the natural setting for a meeting around a table, an interview in a quiet room or a lecture where the recorder can be placed near the speakers. Notebookcheck found Room Mode worked well in physical spaces, and HiNotes was able to distinguish speakers in an in-person meeting well enough to produce coherent summaries.
Room recording remains dependent on acoustics. Distance, overlapping voices, background noise and a speaker turning away from the recorder can all reduce transcription quality. Speaker identification should therefore be treated as an aid to editing, not as a guarantee that every line will be attributed perfectly.
Whisper Mode
Whisper Mode is push-to-talk dictation. Press the control, speak a short note, and release it when finished. This is convenient for reminders, ideas and quick voice memos because it avoids managing a long continuous recording.

It is also the mode with the clearest file-management drawback: Notebookcheck reports that HiNotes does not provide bulk MP3 export for Whisper captures. If your workflow requires a folder of standard audio files that can be copied, renamed and archived independently of the app, this restriction is significant.

Does the P1 record Bluetooth calls?
Yes, when the call is routed through paired Bluetooth earphones supported by BlueCatch. The recorder captures the earphone-side playback and microphone path, allowing both participants in a computer call to appear in the recording. HiDock calls this BlueCatch, and its configuration is performed in HiNotes.
There are two practical boundaries:
- The documented hands-on testing covers computer meetings, including Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, rather than every phone or Bluetooth headset.
- The P1 is not described as a universal cellular-call recorder. Do not assume it can capture a phone’s native cellular audio unless your exact phone, earphones and routing arrangement are confirmed compatible.
BlueCatch is most useful when you already conduct calls through Bluetooth earbuds and want a separate recorder that does not join the meeting as a bot.
Does it work with Zoom and Teams?
Microsoft Teams
Notebookcheck reports successful capture of Teams meetings with BlueCatch. The call audio was recorded without requiring a meeting-side bot, which means the workflow stays on the user’s computer-and-earphones path.
Google Meet
Google Meet was also captured successfully in the hands-on testing. The result indicates that BlueCatch can work with browser-based meeting audio when the earphones are the active input and output device.

A direct Zoom test is not documented in the available hands-on evidence. Zoom should not be presented as confirmed merely because Meet and Teams worked. The relevant condition is whether Zoom is sending both microphone input and call playback through the Bluetooth earphones that BlueCatch has paired. Test a short, consented call before relying on the P1 for an important session.

Transcription, summaries and speaker identification
The P1’s purpose is to turn recordings into usable text and notes. Notebookcheck describes HiNotes as effective at distinguishing speakers in an in-person meeting and producing coherent summaries, with minor transcription errors that are normal for speech-recognition systems.
HiDock claims lifetime-free transcription in 75 languages. That is a current vendor claim, so language availability and the definition of “lifetime-free” should be checked in the HiNotes account and current terms before purchase. HiDock also lists paid Pro features including speaker identification, templates and live transcription. Because feature tiers can change, confirm which functions are included with the device and which require an active membership at checkout.
What the P1 does well
- It combines capture and transcription in one workflow instead of requiring a separate recorder and transcription service.
- Speaker separation can make meeting summaries easier to review than an undifferentiated block of text.
- Call capture works without adding a bot to tested Meet and Teams sessions.
- Room Mode is suitable for physical meetings where the recorder can be placed near the group.
Where to expect errors
- Overlapping speakers can cause words or speaker labels to be assigned incorrectly.
- Distance and room noise affect Room Mode more than a close microphone does.
- Proper nouns, technical vocabulary and accents may require manual correction.
- A summary is an interpretation of the transcript, not a verbatim backup of every statement.
For consequential interviews, retain the original audio and verify quotations against it. The P1 can accelerate review, but its AI output should not be treated as an error-free record.

The 600 mAh lithium-polymer battery is rated for up to eight hours of continuous Room Mode recording. That figure is a manufacturer rating, not a universal runtime for every mode. Bluetooth activity, repeated transfers, live processing and environmental conditions can change endurance.
HiDock’s setup guidance says a 10-minute charge provides about one hour of recording, while a full charge takes roughly 40–50 minutes. Those figures make a short top-up practical before a meeting, but a full charge is still the safer routine for an all-day event.
Notebookcheck reports 64 GB of local storage. Capacity alone does not solve the archive question: the important issue is how recordings can be moved from the device and HiNotes. If you need a long-term, app-independent library, investigate export behavior before filling the recorder with important sessions.

Raw-audio access and the HiNotes trade-off
The P1’s strongest convenience and its biggest weakness come from the same design choice. HiNotes handles device association, recording management, transcription and summaries, so the user spends less time organizing files manually. The cost is reduced control over those files.
Notebookcheck reports restricted direct raw-file access, cumbersome on-device audio scrubbing and no bulk MP3 export for Whisper captures. That creates several practical consequences:
- Reviewing a long recording may take longer than expected if scrubbing on the device is your main method.
- Whisper notes cannot simply be selected as a group and exported as MP3 files according to the review.
- Moving to another transcription or archival system may require an extra conversion or upload step.
- An app or account problem can interfere with access to the workflow even though the recorder itself still contains the audio.
Notebookcheck also notes that using a computer’s native screen recording and then uploading the result to HiNotes can be easier in some workflows. That is not a replacement for BlueCatch’s dedicated call path, but it is a useful workaround when the computer already produces a clean recording and the goal is transcription rather than a second hardware capture.
First-time setup: a practical sequence
- Charge the recorder. Use USB-C. A 10-minute charge is described as roughly one hour of recording; allow about 40–50 minutes for a full charge.
- Install and open HiNotes. The app is used to associate the P1, manage recordings and start transcription or summaries.
- Associate the device. Follow HiNotes’ pairing flow until the P1 appears as the connected recorder.
- Pair your Bluetooth earphones for BlueCatch. Configure BlueCatch inside HiNotes, then let the earphones reconnect automatically or use the BlueCatch button when required.
- Choose the mode before recording. Select Call for an earphone-routed computer meeting, Room for nearby speakers and Whisper for push-to-talk dictation.
- Run a short test. For a call, record a brief consented conversation and confirm that playback includes both your voice and the other participant. For Room Mode, place the recorder where all speakers can be heard.
- Sync and process the recording. In HiNotes, transfer the session, request transcription and review the generated summary or speaker labels.
- Check your export path. Before using the P1 for work that requires an external archive, verify what the current HiNotes version allows you to download and in which formats.
Using the P1 for common scenarios
Computer meetings
Pair the earphones and configure BlueCatch before the meeting begins. Keep the P1 charged, select Call Mode and make a short test recording if the meeting is important. Because Teams and Google Meet were captured successfully in testing without bots, this setup is most compelling for users who want a discreet, hardware-side recording path.
In-person interviews
Select Room Mode and place the recorder in a central position with a clear acoustic path to each participant. Avoid putting it inside a bag or directly beside a noisy laptop. After syncing, inspect speaker labels and listen to the original audio before publishing quotations.
Personal ideas and reminders
Whisper Mode is faster than navigating a phone recorder for a short thought. Its weakness is later file portability, so it is better for searchable notes and summaries than for building a conventional MP3 archive.

When the computer already records the session
If a native screen recording contains the needed meeting audio, Notebookcheck found that uploading that recording to HiNotes can be easier in some workflows. This avoids duplicate hardware capture, although it does not provide the P1’s independent BlueCatch path.
P1 mode comparison
| Use case | Mode or workflow | Capture source | What the evidence establishes | Main caution |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Computer call | Call Mode with BlueCatch | Paired earphone microphone and speaker | Google Meet and Teams captured successfully in Notebookcheck testing | Zoom and ordinary cellular calls are not directly established |
| In-person meeting | Room Mode | Dual built-in ECM microphones | Worked well in physical spaces; speaker distinction was useful | Distance, noise and overlapping speech affect results |
| Short dictation | Whisper Mode | Push-to-talk recorder input | Designed for quick ideas and notes | No bulk MP3 export for Whisper captures reported by Notebookcheck |
| Existing computer recording | Native screen recording uploaded to HiNotes | Computer’s recorded meeting audio | Can be easier in some workflows | Not a substitute for every dedicated recorder use case |

Advantages and drawbacks
Advantages
- Dedicated Bluetooth call capture for both sides of supported computer calls.
- No meeting-side bot was needed in the reported Google Meet and Teams tests.
- Small 72-gram aluminum body with magnetic back.
- Room Mode, Call Mode and push-to-talk Whisper Mode cover distinct recording situations.
- HiNotes can transcribe, summarize and separate speakers.
- Eight-hour maximum Room Mode rating and 64 GB reported local storage suit extended use.
Drawbacks
- Raw-file management is less open than on a conventional USB recorder.
- Whisper captures lack bulk MP3 export according to Notebookcheck.
- On-device scrubbing is cumbersome.
- Some advanced AI functions require a paid Pro tier.
- Zoom compatibility is not directly documented in the available hands-on testing.
- AI transcripts and speaker labels still need checking for important work.
Who should buy the HiDock P1?
The P1 makes the most sense for someone who regularly attends computer meetings through Bluetooth earphones and wants automatic notes without adding a bot. It is also a good fit for a meeting-heavy professional who values summaries and speaker labels more than manually maintaining audio folders.
Choose a different type of recorder if your priority is unrestricted file ownership, direct USB copying, bulk MP3 export or editing audio in a separate application. The P1’s 64 GB capacity and capable microphones do not remove the software dependency.
Before buying, answer these questions:
- Will your calls consistently run through Bluetooth earphones that BlueCatch can pair with?
- Do you need verified Zoom or cellular-call support, rather than the documented Meet and Teams results?
- Are HiNotes summaries more valuable to you than open access to every source file?
- Are the free transcription allowance and current Pro features acceptable for your workflow?
- Can you live with the reported Whisper export restriction?
Troubleshooting checklist
The call recording contains only one side
- Confirm that the earphones are the active input and output device in the meeting application.
- Recheck BlueCatch pairing in HiNotes and reconnect the earphones.
- Make a short test recording before restarting the meeting.
Room transcription is inaccurate
- Move the P1 closer to the group and away from fans, keyboards and speakers.
- Ask participants not to talk over one another when an accurate transcript matters.
- Correct names and technical terms manually, then verify quotations against the audio.
You cannot find a raw audio export
- Check the current HiNotes recording-management and download options.
- Do not assume Whisper sessions can be exported in bulk as MP3; Notebookcheck specifically reports that limitation.
- If your workflow requires an independent archive, test export with a noncritical recording before committing important material to the device.
Final assessment
The HiDock P1 succeeds when the desired outcome is a searchable, summarized record of calls and meetings. BlueCatch is the standout feature: in the reported tests it captured Google Meet and Teams audio through Bluetooth earphones without a meeting bot, while Room Mode handled physical meetings and HiNotes produced useful speaker-separated summaries.
It is not the ideal open audio recorder. Restricted raw-file access, awkward scrubbing and the lack of bulk MP3 export for Whisper captures impose real limits on archiving and post-production. At the listed $169 MSRP, the purchase is easiest to justify for users who will use HiNotes every day and accept its software-centered workflow. If unrestricted recordings are the priority, choose a recorder built around direct file access instead.
