The Helio G85 is the stronger choice on paper: it pairs newer, faster CPU cores with a more capable GPU specification, and it leads the benchmark results listed by 91Mobiles. The Helio G35 has a higher peak clock speed, but its eight cores are all older Cortex-A53 cores, so the GHz figure alone does not make it faster.
What separates the Helio G85 from the Helio G35?
The main difference is the CPU and GPU design. The G85 combines two Cortex-A75 performance cores with six Cortex-A55 cores. The G35 uses eight Cortex-A53 cores. Both are 4G platforms with eMMC 5.1 storage support, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, but their memory ceilings and graphics hardware differ.

These are platform capabilities published by MediaTek, not a promise about every phone using either chipset. Manufacturers choose the phone’s actual RAM, storage, supported network bands and other components. MediaTek’s Helio G85 specifications and MediaTek’s Helio G35 specifications describe the chipsets’ advertised capabilities.

Why the G35’s higher GHz figure does not make it faster
The G35’s maximum CPU clock is 2.3 GHz, above the G85’s 2 GHz maximum for its Cortex-A75 cores. But clock speed is only one part of CPU performance. The G85 uses two Cortex-A75 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores, while the G35 uses the older Cortex-A53 design across all eight cores. Comparing their peak GHz values without considering core architecture can therefore be misleading.

MediaTek describes the G85 as having two Cortex-A75 CPUs operating up to 2 GHz alongside six Cortex-A55 processors. Its G35 product page describes an octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU with peak speeds of 2.3 GHz. These manufacturer descriptions establish the core configurations; they do not by themselves quantify how much faster one phone will feel than another.

That does not establish a specific frame rate or guarantee smooth play in a particular game. The supplied comparison provides no controlled gaming tests or frame-rate figures, and a chipset name does not reveal a phone’s cooling, display resolution, memory configuration or sustained performance. For a gaming purchase, look for tests of the exact handset and game you care about rather than assuming every G85 phone behaves alike.
