The right health tracking app depends on what you want to track, which phone or wearable you own, and whether you are willing to pay for a subscription or dedicated hardware. This guide covers ten distinct options across health records, activity, nutrition, and sleep and recovery; it is a practical shortlist, not a measured ranking.

Prices and supported features can vary by country, device, and plan. Where a price is not established here, check the app’s current local listing rather than assuming it is free.

These products do different jobs. Apple Health organizes information, Strava focuses on recorded activities and sharing, and nutrition apps log food. Wearable ecosystems such as Oura and WHOOP depend on their own hardware for core tracking. The price notes below are limited to documented information; they are not a complete, region-by-region price survey.

Health apps that organize a broader record

Apple Health

Apple Health is a central organizer for information such as medications, sleep, and activity gathered from Apple devices and compatible apps. It is a sensible starting point for iPhone users who want health information collected in one place, rather than a standalone workout or food diary. Apple describes device and iCloud encryption protections.

Health is not the same product as Apple Fitness: Health organizes a wider set of information, while Fitness is the activity and workout experience. Apple announced additional Health app and Apple Intelligence plans in September 2026; treat those as announced or availability-dependent, not as features every user already has.

Google Health

Google Health is the current name for the former Fitbit app experience. Google describes it as a tracking and coaching hub, with connections that include Apple Watch, Garmin, Samsung Galaxy watches, WHOOP, Oura, Strava, and MyFitnessPal. That list does not mean every partner sends the same data in both directions: a connection may use Android Health Connect, Apple Health, or a direct integration, and available data depends on the partner and permissions.

Google says some partner connections may need to be refreshed before October 30, 2026 to maintain syncing. If a source stops updating, check the connection in Google Health and the relevant partner or platform health settings. Premium coaching is optional, subject to eligibility and subscription terms; Google’s US store page lists it from $9.99.

Samsung Health

Samsung Health is Samsung’s health and activity platform, and is most useful if you already use Galaxy devices. Google lists Samsung Galaxy watches among connectable sources, but integration does not guarantee that every measurement or feature is available on every phone, watch, or app version. Confirm device-specific availability before choosing it as your central record.

Apps for training and activity sharing

Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect is the companion app for Garmin wearables, bringing together health and training data from that hardware. It makes the most sense for people who own or plan to use a Garmin device; it is not a like-for-like replacement for a phone-only nutrition logger or general health organizer. Core features are described as available at no charge, with an optional Connect+ tier. Check Garmin’s current local pricing and plan details before subscribing.

Strava

Strava centers on recording activities, keeping an activity history, and sharing with a community. It is a better fit for someone motivated by activity records and social features than for someone looking for a comprehensive medical record. Strava says recording and sharing are available free, with additional features behind a subscription. A supported phone or connected device can supply activity data; check compatibility for the specific device and activity you use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Apple Fitness

Apple Fitness is Apple’s activity and workout experience, not the broad health-data organizer. Consider it if you want workouts and activity features within Apple’s ecosystem, and evaluate its current plan availability and cost in your country. Do not infer a Fitness subscription price from Apple Health’s included-app status.

Apps for food and nutrition logging

MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal focuses on food and calorie logging. Its documented connections include Fitbit/Google Health, Strava, Garmin Connect, and Apple Watch, which can help bring activity information alongside food records. Check the particular connection’s direction and data types: a linked service may transfer only some information, and permissions can affect whether syncing works.

Cronometer

Cronometer is another nutrition tracker, with documented syncing for Fitbit, Garmin, Apple Health/Apple Watch, WHOOP, and Oura. That makes it worth considering if you want nutrition information alongside data from one of those ecosystems. Verify the current platform support and the exact information shared before relying on a sync as a complete record.

Apps built around wearable sleep and recovery

Oura

Oura pairs a ring with an app experience focused on sleep and wellness tracking. It is not simply a free app alternative to a general health hub: core measurements depend on the wearable ecosystem, and device cost and membership terms need to be considered separately. Google lists Oura among connectable sources, but the available information does not establish that every data type syncs across every platform.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

WHOOP

WHOOP combines a wearable and membership-based app for continuous tracking, sleep, strain, and recovery insights. Its plans differ in features and hardware terms, and its documented prices vary by geography. The official pricing information lists WHOOP One at $149 for the first year followed by $199 renewal in certain listed markets, and $199 per year in the US, Mexico, Canada, EU, and UK. Check the current checkout for your country and confirm what hardware and features the selected plan includes.

What happened to Fitbit and Google Fit?

Fitbit should not be counted as a separate current app alongside Google Health: Google’s 2026 materials say the Fitbit app is now the Google Health app. Fitbit hardware remains relevant to existing owners, but available functions depend on the device and plan. Check support for your specific model rather than assuming all Fitbit features or historical data behave identically after the app transition.

Google Fit and Health Connect are also not interchangeable names for the current Google app. For Android, Health Connect can serve as an integration route between supported apps; Google Health is the app experience. Regional migration details and which Google Fit functions remain available were not established here, so confirm the current status on your device before choosing a new setup around Google Fit.

How to choose without creating a fragmented record

  1. Start with the job. Choose a health organizer for consolidated records, an activity app for workouts and sharing, a nutrition app for food logging, or a wearable ecosystem for device-based sleep and recovery trends.
  2. Check your existing hardware. Identify whether the app works with your phone and watch or requires a dedicated wearable. Include device cost and membership renewal in the total.
  3. Verify the actual sync. Look for the specific partner, data types, direction of transfer, and whether the connection uses Apple Health, Android Health Connect, or a direct integration. Enable only permissions you are comfortable granting.
  4. Review the cost in your region. Check the current plan page or app listing, renewal price, free-tier limits, trial terms, and whether a subscription is optional or required for the features you want.
  5. Decide what belongs in a consumer app. These products can help track wellness patterns, but they are not a diagnosis or a substitute for clinical records or medical advice. Google specifically cautions that sleep tracking is not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions.

What this shortlist does—and does not—claim

The ten choices above are selected to cover distinct use cases, not ranked by accuracy, popularity, or clinical performance. No consistent comparative test establishes one as the best health tracking app for everyone. A nutrition tracker, a wearable dashboard, and a health-record organizer serve different needs, so compare them against your devices, data-sharing preferences, and budget rather than treating the list as a universal leaderboard.
