To heal in battle in Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave, select a unit carrying a healing item, move it, then choose Items → Vulnerary → A → Use from the action menu. The Y-button inventory view only lets you inspect what the unit carries; it does not use an item.
How to use items and potions to heal
- Select the unit carrying the consumable.

Choose a potion for the situation
- Use a Vulnerary for a smaller reported heal, or a Concoction when the larger reported recovery is more useful.
- Save Antitoxin for poison; its listed effect is not HP restoration.
- Pure Water is not established as an HP-healing item by the consulted references, so do not rely on it for healing without confirming its in-game description.
Why can’t I use a Vulnerary from the Y menu?
The Y-button view is an inventory and information preview. To consume a Vulnerary, close or leave that view, select the unit, move it, and use the post-movement Items action. Looking at the item in the preview does not use one of its charges.

When should you heal during a turn?
A gameplay guide reports that using an item spends the unit’s action for that turn. Decide where the unit should end its movement before healing; after you use the item, do not expect that unit to take another action that turn.

According to that guide, cooked food restores HP and Magic but not LP, and the HP recovery depends on the ingredients’ HP values.
