How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI page presents Vice City alongside other locations in Leonida, but does not give a map size or publish a complete map. A TechRadar report dated October 1, 2026 says the world is about twice the size of GTA V’s, denser and more interactive, citing Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut. That is a reported comparison, not an official square-mile measurement.

Garbut described a world shaped around details from rooftops and alleys to interiors, saying the team focused on making buildings feel more real inside and out and on giving each part a hand-crafted quality. The implication is that scale is not only about how far players travel: the density of places and details may also reward looking closely.

Current reporting identifies six primary regions. The list offers a useful sense of the variety beyond Vice City, but it is not a Rockstar-published map, and the available information does not establish precise borders, distances or how much content each region contains.

The official story framing points to a state-wide journey: Take-Two’s May 6, 2025 Trailer 2 release says Jason and Lucia’s criminal conspiracy stretches across Leonida. That supports expecting the story to take players beyond a single city, but it does not establish that every location will be accessible at every point or that every part of the state is explorable.

GamesRadar reported Rockstar head of development and co-studio head Rob Nelson saying, “The game is so big, I don’t know that there’s anybody on the team that knows all of it.” It is a striking way to describe the ambition of the world, not a promise that players must discover every secret or visit every location to finish the story.

TechRadar reports that Rockstar confirmed 170 animal species, including more than 60 bird types and more than 30 land mammals. Reported examples include flamingos, pelicans and alligators. Those figures suggest that wildlife will be one reason to pay attention to environments outside the city, though they do not tell us how animals are distributed across Leonida or what interactions the game will allow.

The same report describes a re-engineered localized and persistent weather system, including rain, lightning, puddles that remain, rainbows and changing light. Taken together, varied wildlife and weather give players reasons to notice how a place looks and changes, rather than treating travel between story missions as empty transit. Specific weather behavior by region has not been stated in the cited reporting.
Is GTA 6 bigger than GTA 5?
According to TechRadar’s October 1, 2026 report citing Garbut, GTA 6’s world is about twice the size of GTA V’s. The report also characterizes it as denser and more interactive. Rockstar’s official page does not provide a measurement that lets readers independently compare the two maps, so the “about twice” figure should remain attributed to that reporting rather than treated as a confirmed square-mile ratio.

When and where can you play GTA 6?
Rockstar’s official game page lists November 19, 2026 as the launch date and says the game plays best on PlayStation 5. Take-Two’s Trailer 2 release names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as launch platforms.
