Rockstar’s official GTA VI description places Jason and Lucia in “Vice City, USA” and says their criminal conspiracy stretches across the fictional state of Leonida. That is a broader geographic framing than a single-city description, but Rockstar has not published an official square-mile figure that can be compared fairly with GTA V. Do not rely on claims that GTA VI is “twice as large” unless a later official source provides a measurement.

Rockstar identifies Vice City as part of Leonida and frames Jason and Lucia’s story as a conspiracy “stretching across the state of Leonida.” That wording implies movement among multiple regions, communities and landscapes instead of a campaign confined to one urban area.
A state-wide premise can improve an open world in several ways. Regional changes can make long-distance travel meaningful, give missions different visual and social contexts, and create a stronger contrast between dense urban streets and less-developed areas. It may also allow the story to intersect with more types of businesses, roads, waterways and settlements. Those are logical benefits of the announced structure, not confirmed gameplay results.

GTA V gives you a complete, released map whose roads, countryside and city districts have been explored by millions of players. Its advantage is certainty: you can see the whole world, test travel times, learn how activities are distributed and decide whether its scale suits you before spending money.
Because Rockstar has not supplied equivalent area figures for both games, a numerical “larger map” verdict would be speculation. Even if Leonida covers more land, size alone would not prove that it is more enjoyable. A compact district packed with meaningful systems can be more engaging than empty terrain, so regional variety and activity density matter as much as mileage.

Which map is better for your play style?
- Choose GTA V when predictable geography and immediate access matter more than novelty.
- Watch GTA VI if you want a setting explicitly designed around travel across an entire fictional state.
- Do not preorder solely because of an unverified map-size claim; no official square-mile comparison exists.
Environmental immersion and traversal
What is confirmed for GTA VI
Official material confirms the setting and next-generation console targets, but it does not establish how pedestrians, traffic, weather, wildlife, interiors or transportation systems behave minute to minute. No independent gameplay testing has measured traversal variety, loading transitions or environmental simulation.

GTA V’s world is not an untested concept. You can play it now, evaluate how quickly you reach missions, and judge whether its roads, rural spaces and city areas provide enough contrast. Its long availability also means common technical problems and edition differences are easier to identify before purchase.
For a reader deciding what to play this week, proven traversal beats projected traversal. For a reader choosing a future flagship open-world experience, GTA VI’s state-wide design is the more intriguing proposition, provided the final game delivers enough environmental variation.

Activity density is often what makes an open world feel alive. A useful launch review should examine how often players encounter optional events, whether activities vary by region, how systems react to one another, and whether exploration produces rewards beyond sightseeing. Those are questions for post-release play, not conclusions that can be drawn from trailers or a setting description.

GTA V lets you assess its activity loop directly: start the campaign, leave the main route, and see whether side diversions and spontaneous encounters hold your attention. You can also judge how much of the map remains useful after the story. That hands-on certainty is GTA V’s major advantage over an unreleased sequel.

- Prefer reviews that report observed behavior over statements that repeat marketing language.

Sony Interactive Entertainment says GTA VI “will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of its immersive features.” The dated PlayStation Blog post identifies five specific integrations:
- DualSense haptic feedback for tactile effects.
- Adaptive triggers for variable resistance.
- The controller’s integrated speaker for localized audio.
- Tempest 3D AudioTech for positional sound.
- The PS5 ultra-high-speed SSD, which Sony says enables “near-instant load times” while exploring Leonida.
These are Sony’s platform claims. They establish intended hardware support, not independently measured loading times, image quality or frame-rate performance. Final results may vary by game mode, display, system software and launch patches.
GTA V benefits from maturity rather than new hardware features. Its available editions can be evaluated on current systems, but this comparison does not establish identical performance across every version. If tactile feedback, 3D audio and fast transitions are high priorities, GTA VI has the clearer documented technology plan; if stable, already-tested behavior is more important, GTA V remains the safer choice.

GTA V as the value option
GTA V is the available alternative for readers who want to play immediately. Its long-established release history and more than 190 million units sold, a figure reported by Take-Two Interactive/Rockstar Games in 2023, make it easier to find edition information and user experience reports. Check the current GTA V for PS5 edition, price and stock rather than assuming every listing includes the same content.
Should you preorder GTA VI on PS5?
