Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar describes it as a single-player game set in Leonida, including modern-day Vice City, and centered on Jason and Lucia. Its physical Standard Edition is a download code in a box—not a disc.
When does GTA 6 come out?
Rockstar currently lists November 19, 2026 as the release date. The schedule has changed: Rockstar first announced May 26, 2026, then superseded that date in its November 6, 2025 announcement. Its current release-date announcement and store information show the November date.

When it announced the change, Rockstar said the extra time would let the team finish the game “with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.” That was the company’s explanation on November 6, 2025, not a guarantee about the final product.

Which platforms will GTA 6 be on?

There is no official performance comparison between the console versions in the cited materials. Choose based on the console you own and the storefront and account region you use; the sources do not establish that one console version performs better.
Where is GTA 6 set, and who are Jason and Lucia?
The game takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, including a return to modern-day Vice City. Rockstar’s synopsis follows Jason and Lucia: after an easy score goes wrong, they become caught up in a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state and must rely on each other. That is the extent of the safe official story summary; additional plot outcomes have not been established in the cited materials. See Rockstar’s game overview and story information.

What gameplay has Rockstar shown?
Rockstar calls GTA 6 a single-player experience. It has released trailers and an “Extended Look” described as captured entirely from in-game footage on PS5. That confirms the footage’s source and shows in-game visuals and scenes, but it is not a complete feature list. The official materials cited here do not establish every gameplay system or confirm unannounced mechanics. Rockstar’s extended-look page is the place to view the footage.
Is the physical edition a disc?
No. Rockstar says the physical Standard Edition contains a download code in a box and does not include a disc. Both the boxed version and a digital purchase therefore deliver a digital download. If buying a boxed copy, make sure you are comfortable with a code rather than a disc.

Rockstar’s support information says retailer shipping and pickup for the physical version are planned from November 12, 2026, to support preload, while digital preload is scheduled to begin at local midnight on November 12. These are time-sensitive arrangements; check the current support FAQ and retailer listing before ordering. Rockstar also warns that redemption rules vary by platform and region and recommends buying from a retailer in the country associated with your platform account to avoid activation problems.
What editions and preorder offers are listed?
Rockstar’s support FAQ lists a Standard Edition and an Ultimate Edition. It also says Standard owners can buy an Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately through the PlayStation or Microsoft store after redeeming their Standard code. The Ultimate Edition is not listed as a physical edition.
