How to choose a GTA 5 station
Four questions narrow the choice quickly:
- What genre do you want? The lineup covers rock, punk, hip-hop, pop, electronic and dance, soul and funk, country, reggae, and Latin or regional Mexican music.
- Do you want uninterrupted music or conversation? Most stations are music-led, but talk stations insert much more spoken programming. PC Self Radio can play only your files or mix them with in-game ads and DJ speech.
- Which game and platform are you using? The original GTA V stations, later GTA Online additions, and PC-only Self Radio are not one universal catalog.
- What mood suits this drive? The mood descriptions below are editorial impressions, not measured effects on driving, mission success, or vehicle performance.
Best station matches by taste
| What you want | Start with | What the station is known for | Listening feel (subjective) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modern hip-hop | Radio Los Santos | Contemporary hip-hop | High-energy, current-sounding rap |
| West Coast hip-hop | West Coast Classics | West Coast-focused hip-hop | Laid-back cruising and classic regional flavor |
| Rap, grime, and international hip-hop | iFruit Radio | Rap, grime, and international hip-hop | Varied global rap playlist |
| Original rap production | The Lab | Original music from The Alchemist and Oh No with guest artists | Producer-led and less like a conventional oldies format |
| Classic rock | Los Santos Rock Radio | Classic rock | Big, familiar rock sound for long highway drives |
| Punk or hardcore | Channel X | Punk and hardcore; another editorial description places it in alternative rock/punk | Fast, abrasive, high-intensity driving soundtrack |
| Additional rock and punk options | Vinewood Boulevard Radio or Kult FM | Grouped with rock and punk in current station guides; a more specific format description is not established here | Use when you want to explore beyond the two clearest rock choices |
| Electronic and dance | Soulwax FM | Electronic and dance programming | Continuous club-oriented momentum |
| Electronic with an experimental edge | FlyLo FM | Electronic and dance programming | More left-field atmosphere than a straightforward pop station |
| More electronic choices | Los Santos Underground Radio or The Music Locker | Electronic and dance grouping in current guides | Useful alternatives when you want a different club context |
| Pop | Non-Stop-Pop FM | Pop | Bright, immediate, sing-along energy |
| Soul and funk | The Lowdown 91.1 or Space 103.2 | Soul and funk grouping | Smoother, groove-focused background music |
| Pop, soul, and funk crossover | blonded Los Santos 97.8 FM | Grouped with pop, soul, and funk | Eclectic and relaxed rather than a single strict genre |
| Country | Rebel Radio | Country | Open-road, rural contrast to Los Santos traffic |
| Reggae | Blue Ark | Reggae | Relaxed, warm-weather cruising mood |
| Latin or regional Mexican | East Los FM or MOTOMAMI Los Santos | Latin and regional Mexican grouping | Rhythmic, regional flavor for city or desert drives |
| Talk-heavy programming | West Coast Talk Radio or Blaine County Radio | Talk radio rather than a continuous music set | Best when commentary matters as much as songs; Blaine County Radio is described by one editorial source as especially talk-heavy |
| Your own music (PC) | Self Radio | Player-supplied, supported audio files | Fully personal playlist; optional in-game ads and DJ speech in Radio mode |
Hip-hop: two very different starting points
Radio Los Santos for contemporary rap
Radio Los Santos is the straightforward pick when you want modern hip-hop. Its identity is contemporary rather than a historical or regional retrospective, so it fits an energetic city drive or a mission where you want current rap production in the background.

West Coast Classics for regional focus
West Coast Classics also serves hip-hop listeners, but its emphasis is West Coast hip-hop. Choose it when regional character and a classic cruising feel matter more than a current-sounding playlist. The distinction is editorial and musical; neither station changes enemy behavior, mission difficulty, or vehicle handling.
#1 Best Overall
- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
iFruit Radio and The Lab for alternatives
iFruit Radio broadens the rap choice with grime and international hip-hop. The Lab is built around original music from The Alchemist and Oh No with guest artists, making it a better fit if you want producer-led material instead of a standard genre retrospective.
Rock and punk: classic versus confrontational
Los Santos Rock Radio
Los Santos Rock Radio is the clearest classic-rock option. Its broad, familiar rock profile works for a relaxed highway trip, sightseeing, or any session where you want guitars without the intensity of hardcore punk.
Channel X
Channel X is the sharper contrast: punk and hardcore, also described in one editorial ranking as alternative rock/punk. It suits players who want a faster, more aggressive subjective mood while driving. That energy is a soundtrack preference, not a gameplay buff.

- Experience the world of Grand Theft Auto V like never before with the power of the PlayStation 4.
- Explore the City of Los Santos, the countryside and even the ocean.
- Play through an epic single player experience using three very different characters.
- Join your friends in GTA Online and see what trouble you can cause.
- Play golf, tennis, see a film or call someone and just hang out.
Vinewood Boulevard Radio and Kult FM
Current station guides group Vinewood Boulevard Radio and Kult FM with rock and punk. The available descriptions do not establish a narrower format for each, so treat them as additional choices to sample rather than assuming a specific subgenre.
Electronic and dance stations
Soulwax FM and FlyLo FM are the safest first choices for electronic music. Both are categorized as electronic or dance, while FlyLo FM is also associated with additional mixes and tracks in later updates. Los Santos Underground Radio and The Music Locker extend the electronic grouping, particularly for players exploring GTA Online’s later club-oriented content.
If a station is missing from your wheel, check the mode and update context before concluding that your copy is faulty. Later GTA Online stations are not guaranteed to appear in an older single-player release or on every platform.

Pop, soul, funk, country, reggae, and Latin choices
Pop, soul, and funk
Non-Stop-Pop FM is the direct pop choice. For a more groove-centered set, try The Lowdown 91.1 or Space 103.2, both grouped with soul and funk. blonded Los Santos 97.8 FM is grouped across pop, soul, and funk, so it is useful when you want an eclectic crossover instead of a single narrow genre.

Country, reggae, and Latin music
Rebel Radio covers the country slot, Blue Ark the reggae slot, and East Los FM plus MOTOMAMI Los Santos the Latin or regional Mexican grouping. These are especially useful when you want the soundtrack to contrast with Los Santos’ urban setting: country for an open-road feel, reggae for a looser pace, or Latin programming for a regional, rhythm-led drive.
When talk radio is the better choice
West Coast Talk Radio and Blaine County Radio are for players who want commentary between songs rather than a continuous playlist. Blaine County Radio is characterized by one editorial source as particularly talk-heavy. That description is subjective, but it gives you a practical reason to try it when spoken segments are the main attraction. Switch to a music station when you need uninterrupted tracks for a long drive or mission.

Original GTA V stations versus later GTA Online additions
There is no single station count that applies cleanly to every edition. A March 22, 2026 GTA Intel article says GTA V launched in 2013 with 18 radio stations and approximately 240 licensed tracks, but that editorial figure is not independently confirmed by a Rockstar catalog. A current station guide instead describes 17 stations in the original lineup, while its larger total includes later additions and PC Self Radio. Counts change depending on whether you count only launch stations, later GTA Online stations, or the PC feature, so do not use one number as a universal answer.
Rockstar Games Customer Support’s Title Update 1.52 notes, dated December 15, 2020, record two new GTA Online stations: K.U.L.T 99.1 FM and Still Slipping Los Santos. The notes also say Worldwide FM and FlyLo FM received new mixes or tracks, and describe The Music Locker underground nightclub venue and its DJ content. Dated entries on the same support page record Still Slipping Los Santos and The Music Locker as additions on December 22, 2020. These are GTA Online update events, not proof that every station appears in every single-player or older-console build.

Practical differences can be substantial:
- PS3 and Xbox 360 releases do not have the full post-launch lineup described for newer versions.
- GTA Online station preferences can hide stations from the radio wheel.
- Licensed songs may change while the station remains available, so a familiar station can sound different without being removed.
- PC Self Radio is a separate feature, not a console station.
How to set up Self Radio on PC
Self Radio lets you supply the music, but only on PC. Use supported, non-DRM files and follow this path:
Best Value
- Used Book in Good Condition
- Put your music files, or shortcuts to them, in
Documents > Rockstar Games > GTA V > User Music. - Use supported non-DRM formats: MP3, WMA, or M4A.
- Start the game and open
Pause Menu > Settings > Audio. - Run either a quick scan or a full music scan so the game detects the files.
- Enter a vehicle and choose Self Radio from the radio wheel.
Self Radio offers three playback modes:
- Sequential: plays tracks in order.
- Shuffle: randomizes the playlist.
- Radio: mixes your tracks with in-game advertisements and DJ speech; this mode does not allow skips.
If files do not appear, confirm the folder path, use a supported non-DRM format, and run the scan again. Do not expect this feature on PlayStation or Xbox.
Troubleshooting a missing or changed station
The station is not on the wheel
First identify the mode, platform, and game build. A later GTA Online station may simply not exist in an older release. In GTA Online, inspect station preferences because a hidden station will not appear even though it is installed.
The songs changed
Licensed tracks can be altered without removing the station. Treat the station name as the stable identifier and the exact playlist as subject to change.
Advanced PC or modding reference
A Cfx.re station reference tied to game build 3258 warns that indexes 24 and above are not visible in the radio wheel, although setting one can select a radio-wheel station. This is technical corroboration for developers and mod users, not a consumer-facing way to expand the official lineup. Normal players should rely on the in-game wheel and audio settings.
Quick recommendations for common play styles
- Fast city driving: Radio Los Santos, Non-Stop-Pop FM, or Channel X.
- Relaxed freeway cruising: West Coast Classics, Los Santos Rock Radio, Blue Ark, or Rebel Radio.
- Club or nightclub atmosphere: Soulwax FM, FlyLo FM, Los Santos Underground Radio, or The Music Locker.
- Conversation and world-building: Blaine County Radio or West Coast Talk Radio.
- A fully personal soundtrack: Self Radio on PC, using the scan and playback-mode steps above.
Bottom line
Start with genre, then decide whether you want uninterrupted music, talk, or your own files. Radio Los Santos versus West Coast Classics is the key hip-hop choice; Los Santos Rock Radio versus Channel X covers classic rock versus punk; Soulwax FM and FlyLo FM cover electronic tastes. Check your edition and GTA Online update level before judging the lineup, because stations and songs are not identical across platforms and releases.
