If your GST registration application was rejected for one state, first read its rejection order rather than guessing at the cause. Sign in to the GST Portal using the application’s Temporary Reference Number (TRN), then open Services > User Services > View Notices and Orders and look for FORM GST REG-05. Correct the issue stated in the order and submit a fresh application for the right state through Services > Registration > New Registration.
Identify the rejected application
If you have multiple GST registrations or applications associated with a PAN, make sure you are dealing with the record for the state you need to fix. GSTN’s normal-taxpayer registration guide describes a PAN-level view of registrations and applications: red indicates a rejected application, green an approved application, and orange one pending processing or an order. Use the state and application details to identify the correct record.

The same portal guide describes viewing GSTINs and other IDs mapped to the PAN and downloading existing registration details. These can help distinguish an existing registration from the rejected application.
Find and read the rejection order
- Sign in to the GST Portal using the TRN for the application.
- Open Services > User Services > View Notices and Orders.
- Locate the rejection order, FORM GST REG-05, and read its stated reason and application details.
- Keep a copy of the order and note the reference details before preparing a corrected application.
GSTN’s known-issues guidance directs applicants to this notices-and-orders area through a TRN login. The official GST forms reference identifies REG-05 as an order rejecting an application for registration, amendment, or cancellation. The order in your account—not a generic list of possible problems—determines the reason in your case.

Check whether it is a clarification request or a rejection
Not every officer communication means the application has been rejected. The form number indicates what kind of document you are dealing with:
| Form | Official purpose | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| REG-01 | Taxpayer application for registration | The application form used when applying afresh. |
| REG-03 | Request for additional information, clarification, or documents | A request to respond to; it is not itself the rejection order. |
| REG-04 | Taxpayer submission of clarification, additional information, or documents | The response form associated with a REG-03 request. |
| REG-05 | Order rejecting an application for registration, amendment, or cancellation | Read the order to understand the reason in your specific case. |
These form descriptions are listed in GSTN’s forms reference. Follow the actual notice or order shown in your account.
If the rejection reason is missing
If you cannot see the reason in the order or notice, GSTN’s troubleshooting guidance says to contact the jurisdictional officer. Open Services > User Services > Contact to find the officer’s details; GSTN’s document also presents this route as Dashboard > Services > User Services > Contact.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAsk the officer to clarify the stated basis of rejection and what correction or supporting material is needed. Do not assume a reason that is not visible in the order. The relevant portal route and escalation advice appear in GSTN’s known-issues guidance.

Correct the application and file again
Compare the rejection order with your application and supporting records. Recheck the fields the registration flow explicitly asks for, including the state or union territory, district, and legal name as recorded in PAN. Correct other particulars only where the order and your circumstances call for it.
To begin a fresh application, open Services > Registration > New Registration. GSTN’s troubleshooting guidance says another new application can be filed to make the desired changes. The normal-taxpayer registration guide describes the application flow and the state and PAN-name fields.
- Start a new registration and select the correct state or union territory.
- Enter the legal name exactly as recorded in PAN, and check the district and other particulars against your records.
- Complete the application with the corrections and documents relevant to the issue identified in the order.
- After submission, use Services > Registration > Track Application Status to follow the application.
The GSTN guide says an ARN receipt is sent to the registered email address and mobile number when filing completes. Portal screens can change, so confirm the labels currently shown in your account.

When to get help with the order
If the order raises a legal or tax question you cannot resolve from its explanation and your records, consider asking a qualified GST practitioner or chartered accountant to review it before you submit again. The correct response depends on the actual order and your facts; the portal guidance does not establish a universal waiting period, deadline for reapplying, or exhaustive list of valid rejection grounds.
