Googlebook’s Better Together phone integrations were not working with Samsung phones when Googlebook launched. Google said support would roll out over the coming weeks for Samsung devices that support Android 17, according to a report published by 9to5Google on October 6, 2026. That makes this a launch-time compatibility gap—not a confirmed permanent exclusion—and it does not mean every Samsung model will qualify.
Which Googlebook feature is affected?
The issue is with Better Together, the set of features that links a Googlebook laptop to an Android phone. Googlebook is Google’s new laptop category, combining Android technology and apps with ChromeOS’s browser strengths and Gemini features. Google named Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo as initial hardware partners in its May 12, 2026 announcement.

Better Together is separate from Magic Pointer, Googlebook’s on-laptop Gemini feature. Magic Pointer lets you select or point to on-screen content and ask Gemini for contextual help—for example, to work with an image or information in an email. The Samsung compatibility report concerns phone-to-laptop integrations, not Magic Pointer.

What Samsung owners need to know
In a report dated October 6, 2026, 9to5Google said Samsung phones were not supported for Better Together at Googlebook’s launch. The report reproduced Google’s statement: “Support for Better Together features will be rolling out across all Android 17-supported Samsung devices over the coming weeks. Sorry for the inconvenience!” The report did not name the Google representative who made the statement.

There are two conditions to keep in mind: the phone must support Android 17, and Google’s Better Together rollout must have reached that device. The same report said Google’s support information set Android 17 as the minimum for the integration suite. Phones running Android 16 or earlier therefore do not meet the stated requirement, even after Samsung support rolls out.
Google’s wording does not give a device-by-device schedule or a date when the rollout will be complete. It also does not establish that every Samsung phone can run Android 17. Check your phone’s Android version and current Googlebook support status rather than relying on the Samsung brand alone. The available reporting does not establish a workaround for unsupported phones.

Should you buy a Googlebook if you use a Samsung phone?
Base the decision on your phone model, software version, and reliance on the integrations. If you need phone notifications, files, hotspot access, task continuation, or app streaming from day one, confirm that Better Together works with your specific phone before buying. If you can wait, Google’s stated plan was a rollout across Android 17-supported Samsung devices over the coming weeks, but the report offered no device-level timetable.
Google announced Googlebook starting at $899, with U.S. shelves beginning October 4, 2026, followed by Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5. Those are launch announcements, not a guarantee of current price or stock. Check the Google Store or current retailer listings for availability and terms.

Magic Pointer is a separate feature
Magic Pointer brings Gemini assistance to selected material on the Googlebook screen. Google’s September 21, 2026 announcement described examples such as extracting a training plan into Calendar, examining a suspicious email, and combining images. Google says it can be activated from the status bar, with a configured cursor wiggle, or with the Action/Google key plus G. Users select screen content and enter a prompt or choose a suggested prompt.
Google Help says Magic Pointer is available on Googlebook in countries where Gemini is available, in English, German, French, and French Canadian. That availability information is distinct from Better Together’s Android phone compatibility requirements.
