At Googlebook’s reported October 2026 launch, Samsung phones could not use its Better Together cross-device features—even when running Android 17. Google said support for Samsung devices that support Android 17 would roll out “over the coming weeks,” without giving a specific date. Android 17 is a baseline requirement, but it did not guarantee Samsung compatibility at launch.
Why a Samsung phone may not connect to Googlebook
Googlebook’s Android-integrated features use Google’s Better Together cross-device services. At launch, reporting said Samsung support was still pending; Google’s stated rollout scope was Samsung devices that support Android 17. The statement did not establish that every Samsung phone would qualify or whether an update from Google or Samsung would be needed. 9to5Google reported Google’s rollout statement, while Ars Technica described Pixel phones as the working launch path. That is a launch-period snapshot, not confirmation of current support or compatibility for every Pixel model.

Google said: “Support for Better Together features will be rolling out across all Android 17-supported Samsung devices over the coming weeks. Sorry for the inconvenience!” “Coming weeks” was not a calendar date, so it should not be treated as a firm deadline.

Requirements to check before troubleshooting
Google’s Help Center lists these prerequisites for cross-device services. Meeting them can resolve setup problems, but at launch they did not override the separate Samsung rollout limitation.

What Better Together features do
“Android integration” refers to several services, not one single connection. Depending on the phone, Googlebook software and network setup, Google lists options for continuing activities started on another device, accessing phone apps and files, syncing notifications and Do Not Disturb, sharing Wi-Fi automatically, and using Instant Hotspot. Google’s launch announcement also highlights Cast My Apps, which brings supported phone apps to the laptop.

What to do if you use a Samsung phone
- Check the phone’s Android version. Android 17 or higher is required by Google’s documentation, and Google’s Samsung rollout statement specifically covers Samsung devices that support Android 17.
- Update Googlebook. Install the latest Googlebook OS version, as required by Google.
- Check the shared setup. Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, use the same Google Account on both devices, and connect them to the same Wi-Fi network or phone hotspot.
- Try a different network if features still fail. Public and corporate Wi-Fi can block mDNS, which Google says cross-device services need.
- Check current Samsung availability. The launch-period promise did not name an exact date. Consult current Google support information rather than assuming the rollout is complete for a specific model.
Samsung and Pixel at the reported launch
At launch, reports identified Pixel as the available path for proper mobile integration and said Samsung support was pending. Neither report established universal compatibility for all Pixel models. For either brand, check the phone’s Android version, whether Better Together is currently available for that device, the features you need, and the network conditions. Googlebook’s launch announcement named Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo as initial hardware partners; Google’s US Store also listed an XPS Googlebook. Models, availability and regional details can change.
