Google Stitch delivered a coherent four-screen app concept faster; Claude Opus 5.5 connected to SVG Lab’s drawing-enabled MCP produced custom vector illustrations that more directly matched the brief. That is the result of one run per workflow—not proof that either option is generally better. The Claude-made screens also included a visible text-overflow flaw.
What the comparison tested
In a comparison published by Usman Bashir on October 1, 2026, the same brief for a polished, modern creative-consumer app went through Google Stitch and Claude Opus 5.5 connected to SVG Lab’s MCP. The runs took place on September 26, 2026. Each generated four screens, and neither output was edited afterward. The author did not record the Claude run’s reasoning-effort setting.

The Stitch run used Gemini 3.8 Flash in Balanced mode and included one clarifying question, answered using Stitch’s suggestion. The comparison reports about 11 minutes for Stitch. The Claude-plus-SVG-Lab run took about 40 minutes and involved 119 MCP tool calls. These are observations from one run of each workflow, not averages or independently verified benchmark results. What each workflow produced
Google Stitch: a consistent first draft
Stitch’s concept was an editorial-style app called Atelier. Its four screens shared a serif typeface and terracotta palette, with recurring abstract shapes and photographic imagery. The comparison describes the visual direction as coherent, and the run was the quicker of the two.

Claude with SVG Lab MCP: custom illustration, plus an overflow flaw
The Claude workflow produced murmur, an evening sketching app. According to the comparison, it created silhouettes and other illustrations point by point as vector shapes, then built the layout’s visual concept around them. That addressed the brief’s request for custom illustrations more directly. However, a subtitle on the first screen extended beyond the phone edge; the author left the defect unedited.
What “Claude with a design MCP” means here
An MCP server connects an AI client to external tools. In this test, Claude used SVG Lab’s MCP, whose Design Engine supplied layout, spacing, typography, illustration, and detail-checking capabilities. The result is therefore evidence about a workflow combining Claude with those tools—not evidence that Claude alone produced the illustrations or that the underlying model became generally more capable.

This is also distinct from using an MCP mainly to connect a model to a team’s existing design system so it can read components and tokens. The comparison did not test that use case.
Which workflow fits your design task?
| Need | What this comparison suggests | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Get a first set of app screens quickly | The Stitch run took about 11 minutes and produced a coherent four-screen editorial concept. | Typical speed, performance on other briefs, or reliability across repeated runs. |
| Make custom vector illustrations central to the concept | The Claude-plus-SVG-Lab run created silhouettes and other vector illustrations for its four-screen sketching-app concept. | That Claude without the MCP would do the same, or that this workflow is better for all visual styles. |
| Reuse an existing team design system | No result: that was not the MCP use case tested. | Whether either workflow can accurately apply your components, tokens, or rules. |
| Get screens ready to ship | The reported Claude output had a subtitle overflow defect, so it needed review. | Either workflow’s defect rate or the amount of repair normally required. |
For choosing between them, first decide whether speed to an initial visual direction or custom illustration is central to the brief. Then inspect the generated screens for layout defects and test the workflow against your own prompts and requirements. This single comparison does not measure editing effort, handoff quality, or how consistently either tool performs across multiple attempts.

Product context and availability
Google’s March 18, 2026 announcement described Stitch as an AI-native canvas for generating high-fidelity UI from natural language. Google listed an infinite canvas, a project-wide design agent, importing and exporting design rules through DESIGN.md, interactive prototyping, voice interaction, and access to Stitch’s MCP server and SDK. These are vendor-described capabilities, not comparative test findings. Google’s Stitch announcement.
In a May 19, 2026 update, Google said Stitch could work from prompts, voice, codebases, and design files; stream changes to the canvas for real-time steering; create shareable links through AI Studio; export screens to Antigravity; and publish work to the web through Netlify.
