Sonova Holding AG operates Sennheiser’s consumer headphones under a license to use the Sennheiser brand; Sennheiser electronic SE & Co. KG continues to run the professional-audio business. Sonova’s latest annual report says it intends to divest its Consumer Hearing business, with completion expected during FY 2026/27, but does not report a completed sale. Manufacturing origin varies by model: an official HD 800 S manual, for example, shows a label marked “MADE IN GERMANY.”
Who owns Sennheiser?
There is no single company that owns or operates every part of the Sennheiser business. The Sennheiser name is used in two distinct business arrangements:

- Consumer products: Sonova Holding AG operates consumer headphones, soundbars, and speech-enhanced hearables under license of the Sennheiser brand, according to the Sennheiser newsroom.
- Professional audio: Sennheiser electronic SE & Co. KG continues to operate the professional-audio business, including microphones, meeting solutions, streaming technologies, and monitoring systems.
Sonova announced an agreement to acquire Sennheiser’s Consumer Division on 7 May 2021. That division served private customers with headphones and hearables, and the announcement included a license for the Sennheiser brand. The acquisition announcement described the division at that time as having approximately €250 million in annual sales and around 600 employees; those are historical figures, not current measures of the consumer business. Sonova’s 2021 announcement said a brand license on customary terms would be in place in perpetuity.

As of the status reported on 7 October 2026, Sonova’s annual report describes Consumer Hearing as a discontinued operation and disposal group held for sale. It records Sonova’s 23 March 2026 announcement that it intended to divest the business and says completion was expected during FY 2026/27. The report does not establish that the sale has closed or identify a buyer. Read Sonova’s 2025/26 annual report.

So, for the consumer headphones question, Sonova remains the company associated with the business in the latest reported status, while a divestiture is pending. That does not mean Sonova owns the entire Sennheiser Group.
Are Sennheiser headphones made in Germany?
Some model-specific evidence points to Germany, but it does not support a claim that all Sennheiser headphones are made there. The official HD 800 S manual includes an image of a product label marked “MADE IN GERMANY.” This is evidence for the label shown in that manual, not proof of the origin of every HD 800 S production run or of the broader headphone range.

Where are Sennheiser headphones manufactured?
The available company-level factory information cannot establish a country of origin for every headphone. Sennheiser’s May 2022 production announcement said its Tullamore plant transferred with the Consumer Business to Sonova at the beginning of March 2022. The same announcement discussed continuing professional-audio production in Germany and Romania, including HD 25 and HD 280 production in Brașov. Those references concern professional audio after the consumer-business transfer, so they are not evidence that all Sennheiser headphones—or all consumer headphones—are made in Romania. How to check the origin of a specific pair
- Check the product itself: Look for a country-of-origin marking on the headphone or its label.
- Compare the packaging: Check the box or accompanying product information for an origin statement matching the model and unit.
- Consult current model documentation: Use the official documentation for the exact model and, where available, its version. A label pictured in a manual is useful evidence, but may not cover every production run.
A German brand name or company history does not establish where a particular pair was manufactured. For a specific unit, its own label and current model documentation are more useful than assumptions drawn from the brand or a corporate factory list.
