To add a movable Google Search bar, touch and hold an empty area of your Samsung Home screen, tap Widgets, find Google, then touch and hold the Search widget and drag it into place. If the bar is stuck at the bottom, it may be a separate fixed Home screen control rather than a widget—especially on One UI 9.0 and later.
Add the Google Search widget to your Home screen
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Samsung Home screen.
- Tap Widgets.
- Find Google in the widget list.
- Touch and hold the Search widget, then drag it to the Home screen position you want. Release it to place it.
Google also documents an app-based route: open the Google app, tap your profile picture or initial, then go to Settings > Customize Search widget and tap Add. Menu wording and availability can vary by Android, Samsung software version, and language.

If the bar disappeared from Discover, that does not necessarily mean it is unavailable: Google says some versions of Discover no longer show a search bar, and directs users to add the Search widget to the Home screen.
Can’t move the bar at the bottom? Check whether it is fixed
Samsung’s support instructions for One UI 9.0 and later distinguish the movable Google widget from a fixed Home screen search control. The fixed control is configured in Home screen settings and cannot be dragged. Samsung’s article was last updated September 22, 2026; its menu labels are translated here from a Spanish regional support page, so equivalent wording may differ on your device.

- Open Settings > Home screen.
- Find Show search on Home screen and turn off the search option.
- Add the Google Search widget using the Widgets steps above, then place it where you want.
Turn off the fixed control before adding the widget if you want only one bar. Samsung describes these as separate controls, so both can appear at once.
Quickly tell which kind of bar you have
- If touching and holding the bar does not respond, it may be the fixed control described for One UI 9.0 and later.
- If the bar can be dragged or offers a remove option, it is likely a widget.
This is a practical clue, not a universal test for every Samsung model or software release.

Customize or resize the widget
Google’s Search widget settings let you adjust shortcuts, color, and transparency. Google says changes save automatically when you leave the settings page; you can also reset the widget to its previous look. Available shortcuts can include song search, translation, and weather lookup.

For Samsung widgets, touch and hold the widget and tap Settings to customize it when that option is available. To resize a supported widget, look for a dot in the center of its outline, then touch and drag the dot. Not every app’s widget supports customization or resizing.

If Google Search is missing from Widgets
- Try the Google app route: open the Google app, tap your profile picture or initial, choose Settings > Customize Search widget, then tap Add.
- Check that the Google app is up to date. Samsung’s general widget troubleshooting guidance recommends keeping the relevant app updated.
- If the app’s widget still does not work, Samsung advises contacting the app developer. The documented guidance does not establish one fix for every model-specific reason a widget might be missing.
Android instructions can vary with manufacturer software, and Samsung menu labels can differ by model, language, or release. If a label does not match, look for the equivalent Home screen, Widgets, or Google Search widget setting on your device.
