A fan guide describes campaign missions for unlocking some characters, but its claims do not fully align with Steam’s roster list, so treat those routes as reported guidance rather than official confirmation.

The routes below come from the fan-made Marvel Cosmic Lab unlock guide, not an official walkthrough. Its framing of four initially locked characters conflicts with Steam’s explicit 15-character list. Use the mission details as reported tips, not as fully verified official instructions.

Phoenix (Jean Grey)
The guide says to finish the Blue Area of the Moon campaign mission after defeating Phoenix, including allowing the post-battle sequence to complete.
Venom (Eddie Brock)
According to the guide, defeat Venom as the final boss in Destro and complete the mission.

The same guide says temporary tutorial access does not permanently unlock Vabel, and claims that defeating Vabel and completing Paula adds her to the roster. Steam’s 15-name base roster does not include Vabel, and the cited official material does not corroborate her as a playable character. Her status should therefore be considered unconfirmed.

The fan guide does not identify a specific difficulty, equipment, or build requirement. It also does not confirm whether co-op play affects character unlocks; these are gaps in that guide, not established official rules.
How to choose and use a hero pair
Steam says players select two heroes for each level and can switch between them instantly with Cosmic Swap. The developer’s PlayStation Blog character feature explains that heroes vary in traits such as flight, ranged attacks, strength, agility, blocking, and parrying, and that a button combination calls the partner for an assist.

- Pair contrasting abilities when a level’s enemies or hazards call for different approaches—for example, a ranged fighter with a stronger close-range character.
- Use Cosmic Swap to change heroes instantly rather than treating the second pick as a one-time backup.
- Call the partner assist when it suits the fight; the developer describes assists as an available team-up option.
DLC characters and announced additions
Dotemu says the first DLC, Cyclops & The Thing, is available on all platforms. Its listed price was $3.99 at the time of the cited information; check the relevant platform store for current price and availability.

On August 17, 2026, Dotemu announced premium DLC titled The Siege of Castle Doom, describing a new game mode and two additional playable characters with a planned Fall 2026 release. The announcement did not name those characters, so they should not be added to the named roster here.
