Google dated Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 to October 9, 2026. The update is build CP41.260831.016; it fixes an idle battery-drain issue linked to Flip to Shh and failures with HTTPS downloads started through DownloadManager. It is available over the air to eligible Pixel devices enrolled in Google’s Android Beta program. Google’s release notes also flag a Face Unlock issue that applies specifically to Pixel 11 Pro Fold users.
What’s new in Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7?
Google’s release notes list two fixes in Beta 7:
- Excessive battery drain while the phone is idle when Flip to Shh prevents the device from entering deep sleep.
- HTTPS downloads that failed immediately when started through the system DownloadManager.
Google has not published a quantified battery-life improvement or information about how many devices were affected. The fixes address the stated issues; they are not a promise of a particular battery-gain or download-speed result.

Beta software is pre-release software, not the same as a public stable Android release. Google cautions that beta updates may contain errors or defects that affect normal device operation. Avoid installing it on a phone you depend on if you cannot tolerate that risk.
Known issue: Pixel 11 Pro Fold Face Unlock
Google says Pixel 11 Pro Fold users may need to enroll Face Unlock again for it to work properly after the update. The notice is specific to that model; Google does not list it as a general issue affecting every supported Pixel.

What developers should know
Google characterizes Android 17 QPR2 as a minor SDK release with no planned behavior changes and no app-impacting API changes, while still advising developers to test relevant user experiences. The release notes call out two areas worth checking:
Call-forwarding USSD requests
Standard apps that have only the CALL_PHONE permission are blocked from executing call-forwarding codes through TelephonyManager.sendUssdRequest(). When a user manually dials such a code, Android displays a confirmation dialog. Other USSD requests, including mobile-money transfers and account checks, are unaffected, according to Google’s release notes.
Self-broadcast delivery
Google describes more efficient delivery of self-broadcasts. Apps should not use same-process broadcasts as background timers or keep-alive mechanisms. For scheduled work, Google points developers to WorkManager; use AlarmManager when work must happen at a specific time. For communication within the same process, use direct calls such as callbacks or Kotlin flows rather than a broadcast.
How to leave the beta and return to a public Android release
Understand the rollback timing before opting out. Google says most users do not need a full reset to move onto QPR2 Beta, but opting out and installing the public stable rollback wipes local device data. After the stable release for the version being tested becomes available, there is a limited opportunity to opt out without a wipe before taking another beta update. If you leave at the wrong point in that sequence, the rollback can erase local data.

- Back up the phone before changing enrollment or installing a rollback.
- Review Google’s current opt-out and rollback instructions on the Android Beta Program page. The timing of the no-wipe exit window depends on the stable release and whether another beta update has been installed.
- Do not accept a rollback until you understand its effect. Installing the public stable build as part of opting out can wipe local device data.
For the current device-specific steps and timing, use Google’s QPR2 setup page and Android Beta program guidance; the exit window is not a standing guarantee that every opt-out will preserve data.
